The Nürnberg-Steinbühl S-Bahn station is a connection point for the Nürnberg S-Bahn . Operationally is the breakpoint Nürnberg-Steinbühl at Nuremberg-Roth railway and the operating center Nürnberg-Steinbühl (low) on the train Nuremberg-Fürth that a station portion of the Nuremberg central station is. Structurally, the stations represent a special form of a tower train station . They are located southwest of the old town in the Steinbühl district at the beginning of the flyover structure via the western station exit above the Steinbühl road tunnel.
Location and service
Nürnberg-Steinbühl is provided as a connection point between the road and train applied in three levels accessible with driving and fixed stairs and an elevator, and classified into the category station. 5 There is a 145 m long and 96 cm high side platform on the upper level, a 140 m long and 76 cm high side platform in the middle level and a tram stop on the lower level (street level). The stop is served by the S-Bahn lines S1 (Bamberg - Nuremberg - Hartmannshof), S2 (Roth - Nuremberg - Altdorf) and the tram stop by lines 4 and 6.
history
The stop was opened by Deutsche Bahn on September 5, 2004, three years after the Nuremberg – Roth railway line went into operation, after the authorities could not adhere to the original schedule due to fire protection concerns. The initiative for its construction came from the city of Nuremberg, which wanted the tram lines 4 and 6 not previously connected to the S-Bahn to be linked. The architectural design of the facility, which in addition to the S-Bahn station also included the tram stop to be built, was entrusted to the architectural office "Grabow + Hofmann". A special architectural feature of the upper level are the curved catenary masts attached to the outside of the track trough. In the course of the construction of the S-Bahn to Forchheim, a side platform was to be built on the mezzanine level by 2010, the implementation of which was postponed to December 2012. The mezzanine level served as a rescue area. The planned opening date for the timetable change on December 9, 2012 could not be adhered to because an operating license could not be issued due to a lack of technical documents. The opening then took place on December 28, 2012.
future
In the long term, a new overpass structure to be built over the line to Bamberg on the Nuremberg – Crailsheim line will also stop the S4 S-Bahn at the upper platform on the northern edge of the platform. The track connection in the direction of the main train station already exists and is currently still being used as an access track to the open-air site of the Transport Museum .
It is also planned to set up a new level access to the area from the lower platform level with the new construction of the main freight station.
