history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1352 as "ze dem Tann" (= fir forest). The place was conveniently located on a long-distance trade route in the direction of Hamburg / Lübeck or Leipzig / Danzig. The place was destroyed in the two Margrave Wars. Around 1560 the village comprised four farms and nine estates that were owned by the Nuremberg patriciate . The village and community rulership was owned by the Nuremberg Land Maintenance Office.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 15 properties and a community shepherd's house in Thon. The high court exercised the imperial city of Nuremberg , but this was disputed by the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Oberamt Baiersdorf . The village and community rulers were held by the Nuremberg owners from the landlord . Landlords were the Nuremberg owners of Ebner (1 estate), von Grundherr (2 half yards, 1 quarter yard, 2 estates, 2 estate), von Haller (4 estate), von Holzschuher (1 estate), von Tucher (2 estate ).

In 1796 Thon came to Prussia and was administered by the Erlangen Justice and Chamber Office, in 1810 it came to Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, the Großreuth tax district was formed behind the fortress in 1813 , to which Thon also belonged. In the same year the rural community Thon was formed. It was subordinate to the Erlangen Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and to the Erlangen Rent Office for financial administration . In voluntary jurisdiction, 1 property from 1822 to 1834 was subject to the Patrimonial Court (PG) Almoshof , 2 properties from 1822 to 1835 to the PG Boxdorf , 1 property from 1822 to 1835 to the PG Lohe and Behringersdorf , 4 properties from 1823 to 1835 to the PG Nemsdorf and 2 properties from 1821 to 1836 belonging to the PG Weikershof . From 1826, Thon was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Nuremberg Regional Court and the Nuremberg Rent Office ( renamed the Nuremberg Tax Office in 1920 ). From 1862 Thon was administered by the Nuremberg District Office . Jurisdiction has been with the Nuremberg District Court since 1880 . The municipality had an area of 1.102 km².

On January 1, 1899, Thon was incorporated into the city of Nuremberg .

Today Thon is especially a popular district for young families, because there are several kindergartens and the elementary school at Thoner Espan . Especially to the west, some streets have been rebuilt in recent years.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the Schöller Foundations (initially Schöller Holding ) were established at the Thon bus and tram terminus . In addition to the savings bank, the modern office buildings house various insurance companies and law firms.
