Gugelstraße is the name of the statistical district 15 in the further inner city belt south , named after a street in Nuremberg . The name is reminiscent of the Gugel von Brand and Diepoltsdorf patrician family, who died out in the imperial city of Nuremberg in 1804 .

Large parts of the west and north of the Gugelstrasse district are now used as industrial sites, with the exception of a residential area in the south-eastern part, the 150 Rabus district .

geography

The boundaries of statistical district 15 are Landgrabenstrasse in the north, Tafelfeldstrasse and Voltastrasse in the east, Frankenstrasse and Ulmenstrasse in the south, and Vogelweiherstrasse, Strasbourg street, Singerstrasse and Heynestrasse in the west. Most of the district is in the 3469 Steinbühl district , a small part in the south belongs to the 3423 Gibitzenhof district .

history

From 1888 to 1890, Schuckert & Co. built new factories south of Landgrabenstrasse, which are still colloquially known as meter works. From 1895 a second was built south of the first plant. Many of the workers at these plants were given one of the apartments that were built south of the plants and were called Rabus. In 1903 the works were incorporated into the Siemens-Schuckertwerke and are still the premises of Siemens AG today . In 1945, the factories and their surroundings were largely destroyed in air raids on Nuremberg .
