In the species and biotope protection program of the city of Nuremberg, further natural sub-units were formed. The district is located in the natural subunit Knoblauchsland .

fauna and Flora
Pond complex
The pond complex south of Kleingründlach is of national importance from a nature conservation perspective. The biotope complex consists of the Mühlweiher, the alluvial pond and a few smaller ponds, whereby the Mühlweiher is one of the most ecologically valuable small still waters in Nuremberg. An extensive reed stock at the Mühlweiher offers some waterfowl suitable breeding grounds and is an important spawning area for a number of amphibian species such as the common toad (Pelobates fuscus) , common frog (Rana temporaria) and common toad (Bufo bufo complex) . The reed stocks of the pond offer the swallows suitable sleeping places during migration. The Schwemmweiher is from noctule (Nyctalus noctula) used a strictly protected bat species in spring and autumn as a resting and transit area.
Wet meadows
Kleingründlach has high groundwater levels in some areas. Valuable and nationally significant wet meadows have developed on these moist locations, which are home to populations of the endangered marsh insect (Stethophyma grossum) and the short-winged bite insect (Metrioptera brachyptera) . Rare plant species such as broad-leaved orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis) , nodular saxifrage (Saxifraga granulata) and water ragwort (Jacobaea aquatica) are found on the wet meadows.
Open land
The small-scale agricultural use of the open landscapes around Kleingründlach has created suitable habitats for a number of ground-breeding bird species such as lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) , skylark (Alauda arvensis) and partridge (Perdix perdix) .
history
The place was first mentioned in the valid book of the Nuremberg St. Klara monastery from 1316 as "klainen Grindlach". The place name is derived from the river name Gründlach , the meaning of which is unclear.
Initially, the place was a hamlet consisting of three courtyards and the middle mill .
Towards the end of the 18th century, Kleingründlach formed a municipality with Großgründlach . There were 6 properties in Kleingründlach. The high court exercised the imperial city of Nuremberg , which was disputed by the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Oberamt Baiersdorf . The landlords were the imperial city of Nuremberg: St. Klara-Klosteramt (1 half courtyard), Spitalamt (1 half courtyard, 1 quarter courtyard, 1 shepherd's house) and the Nuremberg owner von Kreß (1 estate).
As part of the community edict, Kleingründlach was assigned to the Eltersdorf tax district formed in 1811 . It also belonged to the rural community of Eltersdorf , which was founded in the same year . In 1912 Kleingründlach was transferred to Großgründlach .
On July 1, 1972, Kleingründlach was spun off from the Fürth district as part of the municipal reform and came to the city of Nuremberg.
To the south of Kleingründlacher Strasse, extensive remains of an early modern street were found in the course of canal construction work in 2016.
