location

The Bleiweißviertel is located in Glockenhof , east of Allersberger Strasse, between Schweiggerstrasse, Holzgartenstrasse and Wodanstrasse.

history

In the area of today's Lichtenhofstrasse 4-8 in Nuremberg was the wasteland of white lead. This is also the core of the Bleiweißviertel. The lead whites (an old term for pencil makers) settled there since the 17th century.

Towards the end of the 18th century, white lead was a single good. The high court exercised the imperial city of Nuremberg , but this was disputed by the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Cadolzburg and Burgthann . Landlord was the Nuremberg owner von Geuder . In 1799 there were two Nuremberg subjects. The judicial and chamber office of Burgthann was responsible for the jurisdiction and administration .

As part of the municipal edict, white lead was assigned to the Gleißhammer tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Gleißhammer founded in the same year .

In 1899 white lead was incorporated into Nuremberg .

Infrastructure

During the renovation, which was completed in 1990, half of the buildings were demolished. A kindergarten, a youth home, a day care center for the elderly, a garage house and club rooms for clubs were built. The Bleiweiß culture meeting place has existed since 1988 and is one of the eleven city culture shops in Nuremberg. In contrast to other cultural shops, the Bleiweiß culture meeting place does not have its own event rooms, but uses the Bleiweiß senior meeting place in Hinteren Bleiweißstrasse 15 and the Quibble youth center (Kreisjugendring Nbg.-Stadt) in Augustenstrasse 25 for its offers. The Bleiweiß culture meeting point has now been integrated into the Südpunkt culture and education center.

The lead white district is today a prototype of modern urban development.
