Topographical-statistical manual of the Kingdom of Bavaria
The topographic-statistical manual of the Kingdom of Bavaria was edited by Joseph Heyberger, Christian Schmitt and von Wachter on the basis of "official sources" and published in 1867. The work was considered the "most complete and best reference book for the Bavarian localities" until the publication of the localities directory of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1877.
Work description
The work consists of a systematic part (with columns) and an alphabetical part (with pages). The system was adopted by the Royal Bavarian Statistical Bureau, which had developed it for the "Cadastre of the localities, the population and the buildings" published in 1840:
The administrative districts appear in the order Upper Bavaria , Lower Bavaria , Upper Palatinate , Upper Franconia , Middle Franconia , Lower Franconia , Swabia and Palatinate . In the respective administrative districts you will find first the independent cities , then the district offices in alphabetical order. The respective sections on the district offices are subdivided into the regional courts contained therein . These sections are preceded by information on the administrative bodies ( rent office , forest office, etc.) and a summary of the statistical key data of the district. Following is the alphabetical list of the municipalities contained therein with details of the districts and their local type , the number of inhabitants , the number of buildings and religious affiliation .
A distinction is made in place types between solitude (E.), railway keeper's house, mill (M.), hamlet (W.), village (D.), Kirchdorf (Kd.), Pfarrdorf (Pfd.), Market (Mkt.) And city (St.). In terms of buildings, no distinction is made between inhabited and uninhabited buildings. There is information on the responsible parish, Jewish parishes are not taken into account. When it comes to denominational affiliation, a distinction is made between Catholic (k.), Protestant (pr.), Reformed (Reform.) And Jewish (Jewish). If the information is missing, it can be assumed that all residents of the place had only one denomination. In some cases the population of wastelands is missing. They were included in the closest location.
In contrast to the topo-geographic-statistical lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria , which appeared in 1831/32, there are only a few geographical and historical notes .
In the alphabetical part (p. 3–233) all places are listed with information about the type of place, its administrative affiliation (district office) and the place where it was found in the systematic part. There is also an alphabetical list of all waters with details of their origin and mouth (pp. 233–271). This was taken over from the topo-geographic-statistical lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria .
