history

Röthenbacher Hauptstrasse (2006)

The village of Rotembach was first mentioned in a document in 1054. Emperor Heinrich III. gave the place to one of his servants. In the following centuries the rulership structure was divided and fragmented. The Nuremberg branch of the Teutonic Order ruled over half the village from 1293 to 1803 as a fiefdom of the Burgrave of Nuremberg. The other half belonged to the Provost of Bamberg . He enfeoffed various Nuremberg patricians one after the other . In 1796 Röthenbach was taken over by Prussia . In 1806 it became part of Bavaria . In 1808 Röthenbach became a tax district , from 1818 a municipality . On June 15, 1922, Röthenbach and the hamlet Weiherhaus , with the Weiherhaus near Stein mansion, which burned down in 1879 , were incorporated into Nuremberg. An agricultural village became a typical suburban dormitory city through the construction of various workers' settlements and later through a building boom that began in the 1960s .

Culture and sights

Culture

The old school building now houses the culture shop.

The district is divided in two by Bundesstraße 2 . Since both halves each have a primary school (1st to 4th grade) or kindergarten, life in the district is limited to the respective half, especially for children. The Protestant parish “Nicodemus”, the Catholic parish “Maria am Hauch” and the culture shop on Röthenbacher Hauptstrasse shape the cultural and leisure activities in the district, which otherwise include nothing special.

Buildings

The Protestant Nicodemus Church came into being when the original second district of the Johannes community in Eibach became independent. Reinhold Büttner's hexagonal red brick building was inaugurated on December 8, 1968. The cross, a sculpture by the Nuremberg artist Heinz Heiber from 1969, is particularly impressive . It shows Christ hanging on the cross, who also carries a number of other crosses, as it were as a symbol of the world's guilt that he owes to himself through his death took.

The Catholic Church of Maria am Hauch is also a new building from 1967. It is the first St. Mary's Church to be built in Nuremberg since the Reformation . The modern long building has an impressive curved roof. The reason for the construction of the church was also the new independence of the Röthenbacher Sprengels of the Catholic parish of St. Walburga in Eibach.

The stone castle on the border with the neighboring stone is a remarkable building. The historicist castle was built from 1903 to 1906 as the residence of Count Alexander zu Castell-Rüdenhausen, the heir of the AW Faber-Castell pencil factory.

Parks

  • The Faberpark is the former garden of the Faberschloss.
  • The birch forest is a grove in the western part of Röthenbach. It stretches from the primary and secondary school in Herriedener Strasse and the Catholic Church “Maria am Hauch” to the parish hall of the Protestant parish “Nicodemus”. The grove is particularly popular with children because of its two football fields.

Regular events

Once a year in the summer there is a district festival on Röthenbacher Hauptstrasse, which is organized by communities, parties and associations from the district. There is also a small parish fair once a year .

The federal highway 2 leads through Röthenbach towards Schwabach and the federal highway 14 to Ansbach . In addition, the U2 line of the Nuremberg subway has ended at Röthenbach subway station since September 27, 1986 .
