Jana Grzimek (born October 24, 1964 in West Berlin ) is a German sculptor .

family

Jana Grzimek emerged from the second marriage of Waldemar Grzimek to the doctor Lydia Schumann (* 1927 ). Her half-sister is the sculptor Sabina Grzimek .

Life

After graduating from high school in Karlsruhe in 1983, Grzimek began studying sculpture at the Bremen University of the Arts with Waldemar Otto . In 1993 she graduated in ceramics as a master class student with Fritz Vehring . Several teaching assignments and visiting professorships followed, such as a teaching assignment for modeling in the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen in 1993, a work grant in the Atelierhaus Worpswede in 1994 , in 1995 for the faience project at the Bremen University of the Arts, and in 1995/1996 a guest professorship at the State Academy of the fine arts Stuttgart , 1997/1998 teaching assignments for the project “Faience” at the University of the Arts Berlin and the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg and in 2002 the faience project in the majolica factory in Karlsruhe .

Jana Grzimek has been a member of the Künstleronderbund in Germany since 1991 and was active on its board from 1999 to 2001.

Works

In her exhibitions, Grzimek documents the diversity of her artistic work, which includes not only bronze and plaster sculptures , but also painted ceramic vessels. Her biggest project so far is the room installation Deutsche Zimmer, completed in 2003 , at the Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe. There majolica shapes of vases, bowls, chandeliers with expressive painting are brought together to form self-speaking rooms (kitchen, bathroom, dining room and fireplace room).
