The Nuremberg-long water station is located in Nuremberg . It was put into operation in 1938 as the Nürnberg-Märzfeld train station . His task was to open up the tent and barrack camps for the Nazi organizations participating in the Nazi party rallies in Nuremberg. It has not been used for passenger transport since 1987. In freight traffic, the track systems serve as the front yard of the marshalling yard .

For the transport to the marches on the newly built March field, efficient means of transport were necessary. A huge Nuremberg-Märzfeld train station was built for this purpose in order to be able to bring visitors directly to the Nazi party rally grounds.

The station building was never completed. Parts of the structures (northern display wall, stairways) are under monument protection.

There were also considerations to run the broad- gauge railway, which with a gauge of three meters should connect Munich via Nuremberg with Kiev, via the Märzfeld station. The project was discontinued with the end of the Second World War .

After the start of the war, the station was also used to transport prisoners of war who were housed in the camp on the Nazi party rally grounds. It was also the starting point for the transport of the Frankish Jews to the extermination camps . The largest transports, each with around 1000 people, left Nuremberg on November 29, 1941 for Riga in Latvia and on March 24, 1942 for the Izbica ghetto near Lublin in Poland .

The station was renamed in 1957 in Nürnberg-Langwasser station. It was a passenger train stop until the cessation of passenger traffic from Nürnberg Hbf to Nürnberg Rbf exit on September 26, 1987. Since then, it has only served as a through station or storage station for freight trains in the marshalling yard. In the end, only the southernmost platform was used for passenger traffic.

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the railway in Germany, the station was the scene of a large-scale vehicle parade in 1985.

In addition to the seven platform tracks, which are now used as through tracks, there are also two sidings connected on both sides.

North next to the station area is located underground main workshop of VAG . There is a siding from the train station.

Memorial plaques

In March 2005, a commemorative plaque was attached to the barrier to the old station building, which had been created in cooperation with an art class from the New High School in Nuremberg, students from the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg, the social affairs department and the “Pedagogy for Documentation Center” project office.

The text read:

“In memory of the dual role of the former Märzfeld train station, which in 1938 received the cheering masses of an extermination dictatorship for the Nazi party rallies - at which from 1941 Jewish citizens, politically dissenting men, women and children, who were prisoners of war, were abused and humiliated, and experienced immeasurable suffering, in work - or were deported to concentration camps. "

In March 2007, this plaque was no longer to be found on the barrier, which has since been renewed - instead, there are new information boards at the beginning of a footpath leading to the platform, describing the Märzfeld train station as station 20 of a tour of the former Nazi party rally grounds. These boards are now smeared with graffiti .
