The Nürnberg-Eibach train station is both a stop on the S-Bahn on the Nürnberg – Roth railway line and an operating station on the Treuchtlingen – Nürnberg railway line and is located in the south of Nuremberg on the eastern edge of the Eibach district . The S-Bahn stop is divided into station category 5. It is served by the S-Bahn line S2 (Roth - Nuremberg - Altdorf) and is connected to the city bus lines 60, 66, 67, 91 and 98.
Investments
The S-Bahn stop in the west and has two 145 m long and 96 cm high side platforms. The station has four through tracks, two of which (central position) are used for through passenger traffic and the other two (east) for goods traffic from the south or from the port in the direction of the ring line / marshalling yard. The platform that is no longer in use is still in place between these routes (2017). A special feature is that the long-distance tracks in the station area are used on the left, contrary to the usual direction of travel in Germany. To the south of the station there is a track change with a flyover structure. On the one hand, this means that trains on the Würzburg – Treuchtlingen route, which turn heads in Nuremberg main station, do not have to cross the main tracks in the main station, and on the other hand, freight trains to the ring line can be routed out without crossing. The tracks to the port of Nuremberg branch off south of the train station.
history
The station was opened on October 15, 1877 by the Royal Bavarian State Railways initially only for passenger traffic, goods handling followed in 1921. With the commissioning of the southern section of the Ringbahn on October 1, 1898, the track systems of the stop were expanded, as the feeder line of the railway line from then on Nürnberg – Augsburg branched off to the marshalling yard north of the station. In 1972 a branch to the south of the port station was built. The last renovation measures took place between 1994 and 2001 in connection with the construction of the Nuremberg – Roth railway line for S-Bahn traffic. In place of the former house platform, the two S-Bahn tracks and the associated infrastructure were built to the west and the previous passenger transport facilities were taken out of service.
