Overview map of Neumarkt with train stations

The currently operated train stations in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate are all on the Nuremberg – Regensburg railway line . Another stop was on the disused railway line to Beilngries . In the course of the construction of a S-Bahn line from Nuremberg to Neumarkt , which began operating in December 2010, the construction of another stop in the Woffenbach district was also planned.

All train stations in Neumarkt are operated by the Nuremberg train station management. The Neumarkt and Pölling stations are in the tariff area of the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association (VGN) , and Neumarkt is also in the Regensburg Transport Association (RVV) .

Neumarkt railway station (Upper Palatinate)

The Neumarkt (Upper Palatinate) station , which is classified by DB Station & Service as station category 3 , is the oldest and most important station in Neumarkt. This is also where the bus station is located, which serves as a hub for all city and regional bus routes.

The station is located southwest of the old town at the end of Bahnhofstrasse.

Pölling stop

The Pölling stop was set up on May 1, 1896 by the Bavarian State Railways and is located on the southwestern edge of the Pölling district on the connecting road to Rittershof . DB Station & Service has classified it in station category 6 .

Today it is served by S-Bahn line S3 to Nuremberg main station and Neumarkt (Upper Palatinate) every 20/40 minutes, and every 20 minutes during rush hour. The stop belongs to the transport network for the greater Nuremberg area.

As part of the construction of the S-Bahn to Nuremberg and Neumarkt, the stop has been extensively renovated since spring 2009: the platforms were brought to a standard height of 76 cm and modern bus shelters were installed. In addition, a P + R facility with parking spaces for 30 cars and 40 bicycles is to be built.

Neumarkt-Hasenheide stop

Neumarkt-Hasenheide was a stop on the former Sulztalbahn in the Hasenheide district, which was located between Ingolstädter Strasse and Paul-Pfleiderer-Strasse. It was put into operation on December 1, 1958. From here passenger trains run to Beilngries and Freystadt as well as to Neumarkt. After the cessation of passenger traffic in September 1987, the stop was shut down and the platform demolished.

Neumarkt-Woffenbach stop

With the construction of the S-Bahn, the new Neumarkt-Woffenbach stop was planned at the Woffenbacher Straße overpass . Since this railway line is already heavily used by passenger and freight traffic, the Pölling and Woffenbach stops should be served alternately by the S-Bahn, which would have resulted in a 40-minute cycle for both stations. In addition to Woffenbach , this station will also supply a newly built residential area between Woffenbach and the Neumarkt Clinic .

Above all, critics and residents complained about the already dense development in the area in question, which makes adequate development for private and local public transport impossible. The 40-minute cycle was also cited as a negative criterion. Instead, they favored the closure of the Pölling stop and suggested the construction of a stop on Münchener Ring in the middle between Pölling and Woffenbach.

These points meant that planning for the stop in Woffenbach was initially discontinued in October 2007. The S-Bahn line was only put into operation with the Neumarkt and Pölling stations. However, the city of Neumarkt would like to keep the options open for a possible subsequent construction of the stop.
