The Regensburger Verkehrsverbund (RVV) was founded in 1983. It serves both the city and the district of Regensburg as well as parts of the districts of Neumarkt , Schwandorf , Cham , Kelheim and the city of Amberg for public transport .
history
The beginnings (1983–1988)
As early as 1981, the city and the district of Regensburg founded a public law working group Verkehrsverbund Regensburg . This specifies the scope of public transport in the Regensburg area and ensures that the shortfall in costs is covered. The Regensburger Verkehrsverbund GmbH was founded on December 2, 1983 . The share capital is held 50 percent each by the Regensburger Verkehrsbetriebe and the GfN Society for the Promotion of Local Public Transport in the Regensburg District . The line network at that time comprised the following lines:

In the first year, more than 4 million passengers were carried, which is why, after just one and a half years, on July 1, 1985, line 16 from the Kortus company was integrated. This leads from Regensburg via Bad Abbach to Peising or Oberndorf. At the turn of the year 1985/1986 the line from Regensburg via Alteglofsheim to Aufhausen (- Petzkofen) was integrated as line 21. In 1987, a new city and regional bus line were introduced: In the city area, line 9, which runs from the main station to Sallerner Berg. Line 20 was added to regional traffic. This runs from Luckenpaint via Thalmassing to Regensburg. In addition, there were changes to lines 8 and 10: Line 8 no longer served the industrial area at Ostbahnhof, this was taken over by line 10. In addition, some trips on line 10 in the south of the city were no longer made to Königswiesen / Dech Betten, but to Königswiesen-Süd . In 1988 line 8 was extended from Ziegetsdorf to Pentling.
The great expansion phase (1989–1994)
On September 1, 1989, numerous other bus routes were integrated into the transport association:

Line 5 was also extended from Schwabelweis to Wörth / Donau, which is why the line to the district clinic was not used in the urban area. In 1990 two new bus lines were introduced again: Line 11 from Westbad via Domplatz to the main station and line 22 from Langquaid to Regensburg.
Association tickets have been recognized on the RVV rail routes since 1991. In addition, many bus routes were added again in the same year and 1992:

The tariff recognition on the DB routes around Regensburg was valid on the following courses:
- 850 Regensburg - Regenstauf (to Weiden)
- 870 (Seubersdorf - Parsberg -) Mausheim - Regensburg - Sünching
- 910 Regensburg - Bad Abbach
- 930 Regensburg - Eggmühl
Note: These course numbers do not match today's!
The Seubersdorf - Mausheim section was not included in the RVV until February 1, 1992.
Also in the early 1990s, the first fleet of low-floor buses was put into service in city traffic. These came from MAN .
10 years RVV (1994–1997)
For the tenth anniversary, 71 lines serving 1,800 stops were already integrated into the RVV. Almost 325,000 residents of the districts of Regensburg, Neumarkt idOpf., Schwandorf and Cham lived in the catchment area of the association. In this anniversary year, a total of well over 25 million people were transported. For the anniversary itself there were only a few integrations:
- Line 29: Regensburg Hbf - Dallackenried (the old line 29 from 1991 was canceled)
- Line 37: Regensburg Hbf - Brennberg - Frauenzell
- Citybus Regenstauf
In 1995 there was a major reorganization of the route network, especially in the urban area of Regensburg, the main features of which could be maintained. The individual radius branches were re-linked, new transfer relationships created and the timetable files optimized for certain transfer points. This measure was intensively advertised under the title Busfahren '95 in Regensburg - Frequent, Direct, Clearer. A new central bus station was also set up in Albertstrasse. From May 28, 1995 the following network was in effect:
line | Line course |

In 1996, line 9A was also introduced; This ran from the main train station via Landshuter Strasse and a section of the Osttangente to the freight post center and opened up large parts of the Burgweintinger industrial area to the BMW plant. Instead, line 9 only ran to Harting. However, line 9A was soon merged with line 7. Many regional lines have also been re-clocked, such as lines 5 and 28. On lines 14 and 34, the clocks have been significantly increased. Line 17 took over the replacement traffic for the earlier feeder lines 13a in Rodau and Edlhausen. Line 18 was again superfluous, as was line 32.
In 1997 further bus routes were integrated in the Schwandorf area. Line 41 was extended to Schwandorf, line 43 to Neunburg v. Forest. Line 42 (Kallmünz - Burglengenfeld - Regensburg) was newly integrated, as was line 110 (Hochdorf - Burglengenfeld). In addition, since then, RVV tickets have been recognized in the city buses in Schwandorf, and RVV tickets are also valid on the trains to Schwandorf.
Expansion to Cham and restructuring in the old town (1998–2002)
After the Regensburg city council decided last year not to run bus lines 1 , 2, 6 and 11 across Domplatz, the measure was implemented this year. Since then, the lines mentioned have been running via Arnulfsplatz, Fischmarkt and Thundorfer Straße to Dachauplatz . From there it becomes Albertstr. drove, from there back as before. The old town bus (line A, internal 97) was introduced in order to make the stops in the old town accessible. At that time, this ran from Albertstraße through Maximilianstraße to Domplatz, from there to the Old Town Hall. Then you drove to Neupfarrplatz and back via Domplatz and Maxstraße to Albertstraße. Four Neoplan midibuses with Cummins natural gas engines, which were specially procured for this purpose, traveled through it every 5 minutes. After the response was very high, the line was extended from the old town hall back to Arnulfsplatz, and from there one drove via Bismarckplatz and Gutenbergplatz to Neupfarrplatz. There were also some changes in regional traffic: Lines 5 and 34 were extended to Falkenstein, and some single trips on Line 5 have even run to Cham since then. In inland traffic, however, only VLC tickets are recognized in the entire district of Cham. In addition, some new school bus routes have also been introduced:
- Line 102: Wörth / Donau - Neutraubling
- Line 111: Matting - Neutraubling
- Line 112: Großberg - Neutraubling
In 1999, in cooperation with the student union, the "semester ticket" was introduced for all students at Regensburg University and the University of Applied Sciences. As a student, you can use all buses and train connections in the network area with a small personal contribution; the student ID is valid as a ticket. As a result, the "university bus routes" have been regularly well filled and even partially overloaded since then. Two lines were also introduced or incorporated again in 1999:
- Line 21A: Alteglofsheim - Regensburg University - Central Station
- Line 127: Sinzing - Eilsbrunn
Lines 6 and 11 have also been slightly adjusted. From the Ostdeutsche Galerie, the branches were swapped, the new line 6 was extended to Wernerwerkstraße and line 11 was directed towards Rennplatz Nord instead of the Westbad. Line 9 was also extended from Harting to Neutraubling.
Since 2000 there have been no more significant clock adjustments. Also, only two more lines were introduced up to 2002:
- Line 19: Lengfeld - Bad Abbach - Pentling - Clinic - University - Central Station
- Line 32: Hauptbahnhof - Stobäusplatz - Schlachthof - Sugar Factory - Liebigstr. - Bukarester Str. - Sulzfelder Str. - IKEA / Globus
In addition, since 2000, RVV tickets have been recognized in Neumarkt city buses in incoming and outgoing traffic to and from Regensburg.
Since 2001, following a major order from Mercedes-Benz, the bus fleet has practically only consisted of low-floor buses within the Regensburg city lines . Since then, their number has also been increasing steadily in regional transport.
The RVV since 2003
The RVV operates around 80 bus routes in the districts of Regensburg, Schwandorf, Cham, Neumarkt idOpf. as well as in Kelheim in Lower Bavaria. Over 300 buses are used each year and about 12 million kilometers are driven. Every year there are around 33 million transport cases in the RVV and almost 10,000 people have an annual subscription.
There have also been major changes to the bus routes since then. Due to the closure of the Stone Bridge, the strong growth of Burgweinting and the ever increasing number of students, the following changes have been made since 2003:
- Line 2: The line was divided into two sub-lines in December 2007. The journeys from Graß use the original route as line 2A. Line 2B runs from Karl-Stieler-Straße via the university.
- Line 3: Due to the closure of the Steinerne Brücke and to optimize the routes in the Reinhausen area, the Rachelstraße stop will no longer be served; instead, the Reinhausen Brücke and Reinhausen Kirche stops on line 4 will be served.
- Line 4: Also due to the closure of the Steinerne Brücke, Stadtamhof and Steinweg are no longer served. In order to simplify the operational process, the stops in Reinhausen were transferred to line 3 and line 4 from Weichs led directly to Isar- / Nordgaustraße.
- Line 10: In order to better develop the KÖWE shopping center , a different route applies to line 10 on weekdays: Instead of driving via Ziegetsdorfer Straße, drive directly to the KÖWE shopping center via Dr.-Gessler-Straße and then directly to the final stop after dach beds. In the mornings during rush hour and on the weekends, however, line 10 runs on its original route.
- Lines 12, 13 and 17: Also here, due to the blockage of the stone bridge over Weichs. In order to ensure the transport of students to the grammar schools in the west of the city, direct trips over the Pfaffensteiner Bridge are offered on lines 13 and 17 in the morning and at noon after the end of lessons .
In addition, the rail routes have been "extended" since 2009: You can now travel to Kelheim by bus with an RVV ticket to Amberg, Neustadt / Danube and a tariff recognition for incoming and outgoing traffic via Saal / Danube. City traffic in Neustadt cannot yet be used with the RVV tariff, but that in Amberg can.
Since February 1, 2010, you can also use the RVV tariff on a VSL line to Wiesenfelden, but also only for incoming and outgoing traffic beyond Wörth to or from Regensburg. In addition, several other places in the Regensburg district will be opened up for the first time with public transport.
On September 11, 2012, the new, barrier-free central university bus stop went into operation, where all bus traffic to and from the university has been handled since then. Also new since October 2012 are four campus LINES, which operate as amplifier lines during lecture times.
Since June 2015, a borrowed electric bus from Wiener Verkehrsbetriebe has been in test use in the old town. Since autumn 2016, the entire old town bus route has been used with smaller and quieter electric buses.

Tram planning in Regensburg
The reintroduction of a tram coupled with a regional S-Bahn has been discussed a lot in recent years. After the 2-line concept for a new Regensburg urban railway was published, the citizens were asked about it in February 2018. It is currently expected to be implemented by 2030.
Board of Directors and Supervisory Board
In years with an odd number of years, the chairman of the supervisory board of the RVV is the Lord Mayor of Regensburg, in years with an even number of years the district administrator of the district of Regensburg. The RVV is a member of the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV).
