Agilis Eisenbahngesellschaft (agilis E) and Agilis Verkehrsgesellschaft (agilis V) (own spelling agilis ) are railway companies that serve parts of the local rail transport in Bavaria . Both companies are subsidiaries of Benex .

history

At the end of May 2008, Hamburger Hochbahn won the tender for the so-called Regensburg Star (also E-Netz Regensburg), which includes the electrified regional railway lines around Regensburg . On July 30, 2008, representatives of the transport authority (i.e. the Bavarian Railway Company ), Hochbahn and BeNEX signed the transport contract for this project. In October 2008, BeNEX was awarded the contract for the Upper Franconian diesel network, which has been served since June 2011. In order to be able to operate these routes, the two “agilis” companies were founded in the first half of 2009 with their headquarters in Regensburg. The administration is located in the immediate vicinity of Regensburg Central Station in the so-called Posthof . The depot for the "E-Netz" was built on the site of a former sugar factory in the east of the city. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 29, 2009.

At the beginning of August 2016, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported on the company's wish for higher subsidies, which was linked to a threat to cease operations in Bavaria. Both Agilis and Johann Niggl, managing director of the Bavarian Railway Company, denied the threat, but did not deny the demand for compensation because of the new competition by long-distance buses.

Tenders

E-Netz Regensburg with Danube Valley Railway

In November 2007 HHA won the tender for the Regensburg E-Netz, which comprises a total of 5.5 million train kilometers per year on the routes from Regensburg to Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz , Plattling , Landshut , Ulm and Ingolstadt . The review proceedings initiated by DB Regio Bayern were rejected on May 21, 2008 by the Munich Higher Regional Court. Accordingly, the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) awarded the contract to HHA. A total of 26 new Alstom Coradia-Continental multiple units were procured for traffic .

Diesel network Upper Franconia

After winning the tender for the Regensburg E network, BeNEX was also awarded the contract for the Upper Franconian diesel network in October 2008. Operations began in two stages in June 2011 and December 2012 on numerous non-electrified main and branch lines between Bad Steben, Weiden , Bamberg and Bad Rodach. The tilting technology connections and the Alex trains are not affected. The traffic volume amounts to four million train kilometers annually, and the contract runs until the end of 2023. This has increased the previous offer by a third, so that almost all routes run continuously every hour.

Route networks

Regensburg star

With the timetable change on December 12, 2010, the agilis railway company started operating the Regensburg Star in a first stage. Agilis has since replaced DB Regio's regional rail services on the Neumarkt - Regensburg - Plattling , Regensburg - Ingolstadt and Ulm - Regensburg - Landshut routes . The existing offer was condensed and supplemented, especially in the morning and evening hours, but mostly trains with fewer seats were used than before at DB Regio. The routes are mostly served every hour, in school and commuter traffic sometimes even every 30 minutes. With the timetable change in December 2011, the network from Ingolstadt to Ulm was expanded (“second stage”). In addition to normal regional trains with all stops on the way ("ag"), express trains run as "as" (agilis express train) from Regensburg to Ulm every 4 hours on working days and every 2 hours on weekends (alternating with 2 hours Cycle of the normal "ag" trains). The entire network is operated with Alstom Coradia Continental trains , and on most journeys train attendants are used. The announcements and instructions are spoken by Bernhard Fleischmann .

The trains called express trains are considered local trains and can be used with local transport tickets such as the Bayern Ticket .

The Regensburger Stern consists of the following routes:

KBS Railway line course comment
880 Regensburg – Nuremberg
Munich – Regensburg
Passau – Obertraubling
Neumarkt (Oberpf) - Regensburg Hbf - Straubing - Plattling In the summer months, agilis cycle trains run to Passau

993 Regensburg – Ingolstadt
Ingolstadt – Neuoffingen
Augsburg – Ulm
Regensburg Hbf - Ingolstadt Hbf - Ulm Hbf

The annual mileage in this network is 5.5 million kilometers.

Since the timetable change on December 13, 2015, the agilis trains have also been traveling to Ingolstadt Nord from Mondays to Fridays from both directions (Donauwörth / Ulm and Regensburg) in order to improve the connection to the Audi plant. Some express trains that are only rarely used are no longer used.

On June 12, 2011, agilis Verkehrsgesellschaft took over operations on the non-electrified local transport routes in Upper Franconia around the cities of Bamberg , Bayreuth , Coburg and Hof . 38 Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS1 trains are in use there. The transport contract runs until 2023. Until 2011, DB Regio operated the routes.

From the start of operations on June 12th, trains had to be replaced by buses on three routes at the weekend because not enough train drivers had applied to agilis and not enough rental train drivers could be found. However, since the timetable change on December 11, 2011, trains have been running again on all lines. In summer 2019 agilis had to use buses again on the Forchheim - Ebermannstadt route.

In contrast to the agilis Mitte network , the trains on the agilis Nord (Upper Franconia) lines are equipped with ticket machines.

The Upper Franconian diesel network comprises the following routes:

In August 2012, the responsible authority, the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG), announced that the agilis diesel network in Upper Franconia was the best of the fifteen regional networks in Bavaria; In July 2020, the agilis network north secured itself for the eighth time in a row with 100 out of 100 possible points the first place among the 30 competition networks in Bavaria.

For the consistently good results in the quality ranking, agilis was awarded the Bavarian Railway Prize by the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Building and Transport in December 2018 .
