Pulsation diverticulum
A pulsation diverticulum is a diverticulum of the hypopharynx (throat) or esophagus (gullet) caused by increased intraluminal pressure.
Pulse diverticula occur primarily in the upper, less often in the lower third of the esophagus. They are caused by increased pressure within the esophagus and weakness of the muscular organ wall. The best-known pulsation diverticulum is the Zenker's diverticulum .
