To the north of the area, the station is bounded by Oberndorferstraße.

In addition to the main train station, Landshut also has the Landshut (Bay) Süd stop on the Neumarkt-Sankt Veit-Landshut railway line .

history

Entrance building of the old Landshut train station

Landshut old train station

In 1854, construction work began on a terminus near the Kleine Isar. To protect the station from flooding, numerous earthworks had to be carried out. From 1857 the brick entrance building was built, which is now a listed building. The design comes from the master mason Simon Pausinger. A platform hall was built shortly before the station opened in April 1858.

The station was opened on November 3, 1858 with the Munich – Landshut railway line. On December 12, 1859, this route was continued via Geiselhöring to Regensburg . On August 6, 1873, the Neufahrn - Eggmühl - Obertraubling route was opened between Landshut and Regensburg , which made the detour via Geiselhöring unnecessary. But as early as the 1870s it turned out that the planned railway lines around Landshut could no longer be introduced sensibly into the station. In addition, the station was too small to be the starting point for new railway lines.

New Landshut train station

Finally, between 1876 and 1880, a new through station was built. There was a siding to the old station to transport the building materials. The station was relocated on May 11, 1880, only the entrance building, which is now a listed building, remained of the old station, and the track systems were dismantled.

When the station opened on May 15, 1880, the Landshut – Plattling line was opened, and the Neumarkt-Sankt Veit – Landshut line was opened on October 4, 1883 . On September 28, 1892, the Bavarian State Railways began double-track operation on the Munich – Landshut line. On November 3, 1900, the branch line from Landshut to Rottenburg an der Laaber was opened.

On June 30, 1902, a horse-drawn tram was opened from Landshut main station to Dreifaltigkeitsplatz. On January 15, 1913, the Landshut tram switched to electrical operation.

On October 3, 1925, the railway line Munich-Landshut was electrified, on October 1, followed in 1926, the electrification of the section Landshut Neufahrn and on 10 May 1927, the electrification of the total Munich-Regensburg was completed.

During the Second World War , the entire station area was destroyed by an air raid on March 19, 1945. The tracks were restored in the post-war years, the station building had to be rebuilt due to extensive damage. The building was replaced by a new functional building on March 19, 1954. On the same day, the Landshut tram was stopped due to the destruction of the depot by air raids. As a replacement for the tram, the Landshut trolleybus was opened on November 27, 1948 and existed until May 22, 1966.

On May 25, 1976, the line from Landshut to Plattling was electrified. On May 25, 1974, passenger traffic on the Landshut – Rottenburg railway was stopped. Freight traffic followed on September 27, 1998 and the Neuhausen – Rottenburg section was dismantled. Museum trains have been running on the remaining section since June 4, 2011.

On March 1, 1984, the Landshut (Bay) depot was dissolved.

Operational control

Until 1950, Landshut Central Station was operated by purely mechanical signal boxes. In January 1950, took German Federal Railways two new pushbutton interlocking systems of the type Siemens Dr 1 in operation. The interlocking Lo served as guards interlocking , LWF as a dispatcher interlocking .

In 1982 it was converted to a Siemens S 600 track plan pushbutton interlocking. At that time, the Landshut interlocking was the most modern interlocking in Europe until the first electronic interlocking was installed. In addition to the main station, the Landshut-dependent route sections also include parts of the Landshut – Neumarkt-Sankt Veit railway and, until 2007, also a block on the Munich – Landshut railway.

In addition, the two double-track junction stations Altheim and Ahrain on the Landshut – Plattling line and the sections in between are operated using remote control . The next locally manned train station is only in Wörth (Isar) .
