A brick factory has been found in the area of the eponymous district for Roman times, while archaeological finds indicate another brick factory in the area of the Unterwattenbach district.
Essenbach belonged to the Baron von Etzdorf . The place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria , but formed a closed Hofmark . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . The ruling court was dissolved in 1848.

On January 1, 1980, part of the community-free area Untere Au with an area of 45.23 hectares (around a third of the area) was incorporated into the district of Ohu and the municipality of Essenbach. The remaining community-free area was dissolved two years later and added to the city of Landshut as a district Ohu. According to the map, this is a section of the Isar with banks.

energy
Today (as of February 21, 2014) electricity consumption in the Essenbach market is around 81,422 MWh / year. This contrasts with around 25,219 MWh / year of electricity produced on the market from renewable energy sources (recorded by the EEG - Renewable Energy Act ). This means that the share of electricity from renewable energies is 31% (for comparison: In the Landshut district, this share is 43%). The largest expansion took place between 2008 and 2013.
Power grids
Replacement building Altheim - Sankt Peter
The Altheim substation is located in the municipality . The Federal Requirements Plan Act came into force in July 2013 . Project No. 32 is the replacement of the existing 220 kV line from Altheim to St. Peter on the Austrian border as a 380 kV line. The developer is the network operator TenneT. The aim of the measure is to increase the coupling capacity between Germany and Austria. At the end of 2013, the application for approval for the first seven-kilometer section from the Altheim substation to Adlkofen was submitted. The plan approval procedure for this was officially opened in January 2014. At its meeting on June 24, 2014, the local council approved the construction of the new 380 kV switchgear required for this and the subsequent dismantling of the 220 kV switchgear at the Altheim substation . The replacement of the section north of the substation between Raitersaich and Altheim is being carried out in the Jura management project of TenneT with BBPlG number 41.
Southeast link
The municipality is also affected by the plans for a high-voltage direct current transmission line - known as the Südostlink. In October 2019 the procedure was in the federal sectoral planning.
Biomass
Around 5,492 MWh / year are generated in four biomass plants in the area of the Essenbach market. Two of the biogas plants are located in:
- Ahrain - 546 kW electric and 182 kW electric .
Photovoltaics
Almost 19,218 MWh / year of solar power is produced in the Essenbach market area with 799 systems on the roofs of private, commercial or agricultural buildings. The installed electrical output is almost 19 MW peak . The largest operator with a total of four ground-mounted systems with almost 8 MW peak in 2016 is BürgerEnergie Essenbach e. G. (BEE).
Wind power
Around 10 MWh / year are generated in a wind power plant in the Essenbach market area.
By decision of January 13, 2014, the government of Lower Bavaria declared the sixth ordinance amending the Landshut regional plan to be binding, which regulates the availability of areas for wind power. This provides neither priority areas nor reserved areas for the Essenbach market. Since potential for the construction of wind power plants is seen, the 2013 market was in the process of changing the land use plan in order to identify concentration zones for the use of wind power. Five larger areas with a total of 598 hectares are included as potential areas for wind power use in the draft of March 18, 2014 for the amendment of the Essenbach zoning plan. At its meeting on June 24, 2014, the municipal council decided in a fifth consideration of the draft of this zoning plan the previously planned areas for wind turbines by changing the distances for the outside (previously 500 now 800 m) and inside (previously 800 now 1,000 m) to reduce from 598 ha to 330 ha. With the fifth interpretation and seventh amendment, this plan has reached maturity. With the sixth consideration, the municipal council decided in mid-November on the zoning plan with an area of 325 hectares and spacing areas of 750 m to commercial settlements, 800 m outdoors, 1000 meters to the mixed village area and 1050 m to residential areas.
A feasibility study for the realization of a wind farm to supply up to 18,000 households with electricity with eight wind turbines up to 200 m high between Bruckbach (municipality of Essenbach) and Weihenstephan (municipality of Hohenthann ) has been completed and is available for inspection in the municipalities of Ergolding and as of June 2014 Essenbach on. In addition, there was a plan for a small wind turbine outside of the concentration zones, but the municipal agreement was refused in September.
There is a citizens' initiative against wind turbines.
Hydropower
Around 497 MWh / year (recorded by the EEG - Renewable Energy Act ) are generated in three hydropower plants in the Essenbach market area. The hydropower plants are located in:
- Ahrain - 45 kW electric , 38 kW electric and
- Ohu - 60 kW electric .
In addition, there is the Niederaichbach hydropower plant , and another hydropower plant is located upstream near Altheim .
Nuclear power
The Isar nuclear power plant is located in the municipality with its two blocks. On June 30, 2011, Block 1 lost its authorization for power operation and is in so-called standstill operation . In 2012, the operator E.ON applied for the dismantling of the power plant and the environmental impact assessment process for decommissioning has been in progress since March 17, 2014.
traffic
Long-distance transport
Between Ergolding and Altheim, about 3.5 kilometers south-west of Essenbach, there is the “Landshut / Essenbach” motorway junction with the A 92 , which leads to and through the town of Essenbach via federal highway 15 . The A 92 offers connections to the A 3 in a north-easterly direction and to the Munich ring road in a south-easterly direction .
With the opening of the construction section from Ergoldsbach to Essenbach on November 20, 2019, the federal highway 15 will now have four lanes and will enable a continuous traffic connection from the Saalhaupt junction on the A 93 to the exit at the 2141 state road near Essenbach. The A 93 leads in a northerly direction via Regensburg to Hof (Saale) and in a south-westerly direction it joins the A 9 .
In order to reconnect the traffic from the B 15 to the A 92, it will first be diverted to the junction near Essenbach on the state road 2141 and then on to the LA 7. The connection to the A 92 takes place in the area of the bridge of the LA 7 via the A 92, which connects the districts of Essenbach and Ohu with each other. This connection is about 2.5 kilometers south-east of Essenbach.
The direct connection between the B 15 and the A 92 is expected to take place in 2025. A planning approval procedure as part of the east-south bypass Landshut for a further construction of the B 15 over the Isar to the LA 14 s district road was in preparation in 2019.
Local and regional transport
Essenbach is one of several economic centers in the Landshut district. Accordingly, Essenbach has a high level of commuter traffic (see graphics). In relation to the district communities, the strongest commuter traffic is between Essenbach and Ergolding. There are also strong commuter traffic with the two municipalities of Ergoldsbach and Niederaichbach, as well as Altdorf, Wörth and Vilsbiburg, which are directly adjacent to Essenbach. The commuter traffic between Essenbach and the city of Landshut is much more pronounced.
The former Isartal- Bundesstraße 11 and today's state road St 2074 , which runs through the villages of Ohu, Oberahrain and Unterahrain, leads through the municipality of Essenbach. In addition, the district roads LA 6 , LA 7 , LA 10 and LA 22 lead through the municipality. The state road Staatsstraße St 2141 (connecting axis Landshut-Straubing) connects Essenbach and Oberwattenbach .
Rail transport
The Munich-Regensburg and Landshut-Plattling railway lines run through Markt Essenbach . The former railway stations Mirskofen (Munich-Regensburg), Altheim (Landshut-Plattling) and Ahrain (Landshut-Plattling) have all been closed. The main town of Essenbach was never connected to the railway network.
education
In 2006 the following institutions existed:
- Kindergartens: 379 kindergarten places with 346 children at four locations in Essenbach, Unterwattenbach, Artlkofen and Ahrain
- Elementary school Essenbach with school locations in Essenbach (elementary and secondary school), Altheim and Mirskofen with 504 students in 22 classes
- Ahrain primary school with schools in Ahrain and Mettenbach with 199 students in eight classes
