history

Until the church is planted

Grave mound fields near Angersdorf point to a settlement in the area in the Bronze Age .

"Am Kröning" was the name for the elongated ridge on the right of the Isar from Landshut to Niederviehbach . It is uncertain whether mentions from the 13th century (Kroninch, Chronich) refer to Kröning. Secure documents only appear in the 15th century (Kronig, Kronign). In 1752 the place name is Cröning, between 1782 and 1787 it becomes Kröning. It is originally a field name that may be derived from rone (fallen tree trunk). The municipality got its historical name from him after the core area in an extensive royal estate district of the late Middle Ages.

The single farm Kröning, presumably a royal forest farm, became the center of the special economic community of Hafner on the Kröning. Masses of fine fleece are stored here in which layers of high-quality clay are embedded. Since the 15th century, the Kröninger crockery formed from it has been a permanent fixture in peasant households as well as in middle-class and electoral households. The Kröninger Hafnerei was a rural trade that was mostly carried out in small villages, hamlets and wastelands that were far apart.

With the new formation of the Vilsbiburg Regional Court and the dissolution of the Teisbach Regional Court in the course of the reorganization at the beginning of the 19th century, the Kröning, previously known primarily as the area name, received community status. With the first municipal edict of 1808/11, the tax district No. 8 Kröning was formed in the Teisbach Rent Office with two villages, 16 hamlets and 34 wastelands. In 1818, the district court municipality of Kröning followed on the basis of the tax district.

Most of the community's residents work in agriculture. There are job opportunities in the neighboring towns of Landshut, Vilsbiburg and, above all, Dingolfing. In Groß- and Kleinbettrain, blue clay is still extracted today, which used to form the basis for the Kröninger Hafnerei and is now mainly used in the manufacture of roof tiles. There is a large collection and information on the Kröninger Hafnern in the Vilsbiburg Local History Museum .

Territorial reform of the 1970s

On April 1, 1971, the previously independent communities Dietelskirchen and Jesendorf were incorporated. On May 1, 1978 parts of the area were ceded to the neighboring communities of Adlkofen and Gerzen, and on January 1, 1980 to Niederaichbach. Before the regional reform , all municipalities belonged to the Vilsbiburg district. This was dissolved on July 1, 1972.

coat of arms

The coat of arms, which has been in use since 1983, shows a silver pole in blue, topped with a green mountain from which a green fir tree grows, a silver clay jug in front and a silver heraldic lily in the back.

The fir tree on the green mountain symbolizes the geographic location of the community in the Kröninger Forest. The clay jug is reminiscent of the handicraft of pottery, which used to be practiced mainly in winter, and which for centuries ensured small farmers "in Kröning" a sideline. The silver lily in the back field refers to the Niederviehbach monastery, founded in 1296, which particularly shaped the historical development in the Kirchberg part of the municipality. The tinging in silver and blue corresponds to the Wittelsbach state colors and underlines the fact that the municipality is part of the Teisbach electoral care court.

Culture and sights

Architectural monuments

The church in Kirchberg
  • Art Nouveau Church of the Conception of Mary in Dietelskirchen. It was built between 1912 and 1913.
  • The typical Hafner houses 1 to 6 still preserved in Bödldorf were included as an ensemble in the list of monuments.
  • Parish church of St. Florian and Wolfgang in Kirchberg. The Gothic structure was built around 1470. The free-standing tower probably comes from the earlier church from the 12th century. Inside the church is equipped with a neo-Gothic winged altar. Above in the cracks of an otherwise neo-Gothic crucifixion group you can see a Rococo figure of Mary. The local researcher Bartholomäus Spirkner was a pastor in Kirchberg from 1908 to 1919.
  • Pilgrimage Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary in Wippstetten. It was built in the second half of the 15th century in the Gothic style and expanded in baroque style around 1760.
