history

Until the church is planted

As the name Altdorf suggests, the place is very old. In 789 the place was first mentioned in a written source. The next later mention in a document of the Niederaltaich monastery dates back to the year 864. During excavations in the course of road construction work, six post pits were uncovered in a rectangle of 3 m × 7 m, which was considered to be a wooden church from the 2nd half of the 7th century be interpreted appropriately. Eight months after the end of the war, the first municipal elections (municipal council elections) took place in the municipalities of Bavaria on January 27, 1946. Sebastian Stanglmaier (citizen and environmental list) has been the first mayor since 2020.

From 1996 to 2008 Josef Sehofer (SPD / non-party voters) was Mayor of Altdorf. In 2008, Franz Kainz (CSU) was elected, who held the office until his death on May 7, 2012. After the death of Kainz, the second mayor Helmut Maier (CSU) temporarily headed the town hall before he was elected 1st mayor on July 29, 2012. The agriculturally used area in 2013 was 1,364 ha (1,526 ha). Of this, 1,234 ha (1,333 ha) were arable land. Whereas in 1999 there were 185 ha of high-yield permanent green space, no such areas were statistically recorded in 2010. Since 1999 the number of cattle has decreased by about a third, that of dairy cows by a little more than a quarter and that of chickens by about 40 percent. The Altdorf market is connected to the federal motorway 92 (main traffic artery in the Isar valley between Munich and Deggendorf) with its own junction. The federal road 299, which connects the Bavarian chemical triangle with the industrial site between Neustadt an der Donau and Ingolstadt , runs through the municipality . The Parish Church of the Visitation

• Parish Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary (Frauenkirche). It goes back to a late Romanesque building, the tower of which was changed in baroque style. The Gothic relay hall houses wall paintings from around 1500 in the choir, which was started in 1419. The nave, completed in 1466, contains frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries. In the high altar (around 1690) there is a life-size carved Madonna and Child (around 1520), other figures come from the 15th to 18th centuries.
