The monument, shown in simplified form in the coat of arms, commemorates the last great battle of the Upper Austrian Peasants' War on November 15, 1626 in the fields between Pinsdorf and Buchen, in which around 6,000 peasants were led by the united electoral-Bavarian and imperial-Austrian soldiers under General Pappenheim and Obrist Löbl were crushed. The hill on which in 1883 Johann Ev. Forstinger, Gmunden, the memorial stone donated was erected, contains as a mass grave some of the approximately 2000 fallen farmers. The entire complex was thoroughly restored between 1949 and 1951 on behalf of the Peasants' War Memorial Committee.

Since 1490 it has been part of the principality 'Austria ob der Enns'. In November 1626 there was the battle of Pinsdorf (see also Upper Austrian Peasants' War ). The Bauernhügel , a burial mound with a memorial stone, which is located in the Neuhofen district, still reminds us of the terrible events of those days. During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

The tax community of Pinsdorf was established here under Joseph II . With the creation of the local communities after 1848/49 and the abolition of the lordship, Pinsdorf became part of the Ort [h] community in 1851 . However, this was dissolved again in 1861 and partly came to the newly created community Altmünster, the cadastral communities Pinsdorf and Kufhaus formed the new community Pinsdorf created on November 18, 1861.

Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Churches

Catholic Parish Church of Saint Matthew

History of the church

The legend says that the church should be originally built at another location. The oxen that brought the building material did not stop at the intended building site, but went to where the church is today. Since when a church has been in Pinsdorf cannot be determined exactly. An altar consecration on May 10, 1457 indicates that a new church will be built in that year. This is also supported by the late Gothic ribbed vault in the choir room. In any case, it has certainly existed since 1494. Specific data on the church building did not emerge until 1753, when the tower roof was replaced. Due to serious structural damage that was discovered during the construction of the tower in 1890/91, the planned reconstruction of the church from 1892 to 1893 almost became a new building. The side walls have been redesigned to give more space inside. The flat ceiling of the nave was replaced by a new, vaulted one. The choir and the marble church portal were preserved. The current appearance of the interior was achieved through the redesign in 1976/77.

Interior

In the chancel the representation of the Holy Trinity can be seen, on the left the figure of God the Father, which still comes from the old baroque high altar, in the middle a crucifix, a Schwanthaler copy by the sculptor Fritz Litzlbauer from Neukirchen / Wald, and on the right God -Holy spirit in the shape of a dove with a halo from the workshop of the sculptor Litzlbauer.

The people's altar was built in 1982. The marble slab comes from the abandoned Garsten Abbey.

According to a design by Br. Bernhard Schmid OSB from the Seckau Abbey, the tabernacle was made in the local goldsmiths and erected on March 26, 1997. This represents the 15th station of the cross: Thomas meets the risen one, man as a seeker, doubter and believer is held by God. The pictures of the Stations of the Cross in the chancel still come from the neo-Gothic church furnishings, set in new frames.

In 2003, the statue of St. Anthony, which was made in a Gmunden workshop around 1900, was re-attached to the Marien Altar in the left side niche after the restoration. The altar itself comes from the old neo-Gothic church furnishings around 1900. The Madonna from Lourdes was added later.

In the stairway to the choir there is a church window from the 19th century depicting the patron saint, Saint Matthew.

The organ was inaugurated in 1983 and comes from the workshop of the Linz organ builder Bruno Riedl, with 16 registers, divided into the main work, Rückpositiv and pedal, and 1098 pipes made of wood and tin alloy. The case was planned by the organ builder and the diocesan art department.

The new church windows come from Prof. Rudolf Kolbitsch , they were made in 1975/1976 in the glass workshop of Schlierbach Abbey. They represent the presence of God in the burning bush (Exodus3). God is the "I-am-there" who walks through time with us humans.

The message of Jesus Christ is carried out into the village by 4 church bells , the oldest of which, the “ little train bell ” (74 cm in diameter), dates from 1903. After the turmoil of the two world wars, the new bells were consecrated in 1950, the warrior bell in honor of St. Joseph and St. Florians, the Marienglocke and the Matthäusglocke. A general renovation took place in 2002, with a changeover to an electronic bell system. Only the movement remained in its original state. It is located in the bell tower and is around 110 years old.

In 2009 the church heating was switched to an environmentally friendly infrared bench heating. In 2010, an inductive loudspeaker system was installed so that people with hearing impairments can attend church services without noise.

Since. September 1, 2001, a parish moderator and parish assistant Gerhard Pumberger are responsible for pastoral care together with the parish council.

New Apostolic Church

The New Apostolic Church in Pinsdorf was consecrated in 1990. The very modern architectural style surprises many who suspect no church behind this building.

The peasant hill

The peasant hill

The farmer's hill , which also stood for the Pinsdorf coat of arms, is considered the greatest attraction in Pinsdorf. Rather inconspicuous next to a street, it makes you shudder when you read the inscription on the plaque on the obelisk: World icon

In the peasant uprising in 1626, the Upper Austrian peasants under their leader, Chief Captain Stephan Fadinger, raised against Bavarian rule and to enforce the freedom of their evangelical faith. On November 15, 1626, the "Battle of Gmunden" took place, where the peasants, led by the student Casparus, faced the imperial and Bavarian troops under General Pappenheim requested by the governor Herbersdorf. In the first onslaught, the farmers from the Schanzengraben in the "Bira-Lah" (beeches) beat the imperial troops behind the city walls of Gmunden, while on the northwestern side the Pappenheimers attack and the farmers no longer after bitter resistance, the pressure withstanding, lose the fight.

According to reports, around 2,000 farmers fell here, pooled in the open field and filled with soil from the area. The memorial stone was erected on the grass-covered knoll in 1883 by the private JE Forstinger in Gmunden.

In memory of the farmers who were defeated by Pappenheim on November 15, 1626 and buried under this hill.
