St. Konrad (the place also Sankt Konrad ) is a municipality in Upper Austria in the district of Gmunden in the Traunviertel with 1144 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Gmunden .

geography

St. Konrad is located between Traunsee and Almtal on the upper reaches of the Laudach at around 580  m above sea level. A. Height.

The extension is from north to south 5.6 km, from west to east 6.5 km. The total area is 19.2 km². 50.5% of the area is forested, 43.8% of the area is used for agriculture.

Towards the foothills of the Alps, St. Konrad borders on Kirchham , towards the Almtal on Scharnstein , in the south Katzenstein and Laudachsee form the border with Gmunden , in the west the Laudach borders on Gmunden and Gschwandt bei Gmunden .

history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

The stylized "K" in the municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1993, stands as the first letter for both the place name and the Kremsmünster Abbey , to which the parish of St. Konrad is incorporated . The green color refers to the high proportion of forests and meadows in the municipality.

St. Konrad belongs to the Almtal tourist region , which was founded on January 1st, 2013. St. Konrad is thus oriented towards the east, not towards Lake Traunsee .

Population development

In 1991 the community had 923 inhabitants according to the census, then 1,033 in 2001 and increased to 1,115 people by 2018. This growth is based on a slightly positive migration balance and a strongly positive birth balance .

The main town of the municipality is the village of Sankt Konrad . It is located about 30 kilometers south of Wels , halfway between Gmunden am Traunsee and Scharnstein im Almtal, in the center of the community. It lies in the valley of the Kotbach, which flows into the Laudach from the east at Kranichsteg . This west-east strip of the valley forms the actual core area of ​​the community, via which the B 120 Scharnsteiner Straße creates the connection between Gmunden and Scharnstein.

The place itself has about 40 addresses, and is partly in the cadastral parish of St. Konrad, but partly in Edt bordering to the west (about 10 houses). Sankt Konrad has largely grown together with this place.

The village of Sankt Konrad has around 150 buildings with over 550 inhabitants. The Rotte Pühret and the houses in Straß against Scharnstein, the Mason on the mountain south, the Rotte houses , the homestead Reith and the Rotte Hueb on the southern slope of the valley, as well as the Rotte Dürrnberg and the homestead Hals , the top of the pass also belong to the local area inward of the valley Almtal.

The cadastral community of St. Konrad with about 640  hectares includes the local area, as well as north and south bordering parcels between the community boundaries at Oberriedel ( 806  m above sea level ) and Hochriedel ( 1043  m above sea level ).
