history

Until the church is planted

According to a chronicle written by Count Georg von Soden-Fraunhofen , the place where the village of Neufraunhofen spreads today was originally a noble seat called Öd, which was first mentioned in 1180. That is the year in which Otto von Wittelsbach was appointed Duke of Bavaria after Heinrich the Lion was deposed by Emperor Barbarossa. The lords of Öd exercised the gift office at the court of the Wittelsbach family, which gave their ancestral seat Öd, which means something like father's estate, an hereditary farm located in the desert, the name "Schenkenöd". Around 1390 Wilhelm von Fraunhofen took over the seat, rebuilt the castle and had it renamed New Fraunhofen, while his cousin stayed in Fraunhofen, which was now called Old Fraunhofen. Alt- and Neufraunhofen were imperial fiefs that were only subordinate to the emperor. This also included parts of the communities Baierbach , Wambach, Sulding, Obergangkofen , Gundihausen , Münchsdorf and Windten. The castle buildings with church in Neufraunhofen were given their present appearance between 1709 and 1720 through partial renovations and extensions. The castle church is a building of courtly elegance. The church, partly built in the late Gothic and Art Nouveau style in Hinterskirchen, and the Gothic church in Georgenzell are also particularly worth seeing.

From the 19th century

At the end of 1805, the two localities of Alt- and Neufraunhofen were incorporated into the Bavarian state through the Rhine Federation Act. The municipality of Neufraunhofen came into being with the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818. The municipality of Neufraunhofen in its current form with an area of almost 18 km² was only re-formed on May 1, 1978 from parts of the former municipalities of Neufraunhofen and Vilslern. Other parts of these communities came to Velden . The community has belonged to the Velden (Vils) administrative community since May 1st, 1978 . It is predominantly agricultural. There are also various commercial, craft and trading companies. After the school reform brought the classes to Velden, the construction of a new kindergarten in Neufraunhofen brought "life" back to the community. Playgrounds in Neufraunhofen and Hinterskirchen are popular leisure facilities. In the community there is a vibrant club life in the sporting, cultural and social sectors. Mention should be made of the sports club, the three volunteer fire brigades , a rifle club, the warrior and soldier comradeships, two women's clubs and the horticultural and rural maintenance association. The Hinterskirchen Trachtenverein is one of the largest and best-known traditional costume groups in Bavaria. The so-called Theobaldimarkt has existed in Neufraunhofen since 1683, and was brought back to life in 1991 when the Theobaldimarkt- und Förderverein was founded. The Hinterskirchener Volksfest is well known.
