history

Until the 19th century

The earliest evidence of a settlement in the area around Obersüßbach are barrows near Niedersüßbach from the period 1800–1200 BC. Around 600 there was a first settlement by the Bavarians . In the year 814 a noble abbot Richpald bequeathed 14 Meierhöfe in "Sezpah" and four in "Niuuinhusen" (Neuhausen) to the monastery of St. Emmeram in Regensburg . A charter in the Bavarian Main State Archives in Munich also dates from this time . On October 28, 814, a monk named Ratolf came to Sezpah as a pastor . Around 935 Obersüßbach, Obermünchen and Niedermünchen were mentioned in a register of the Tegernsee monastery . From around 1060 until 1615, the Kärgel family was resident and decisive in Sießbach and Furth. In 1605 a 1000 year celebration was reported in Obermünchen, according to which the Obermünchen settlement had existed since 605. From 1615 to 1686 the Gumppenberg were the lords of Sießbach. Sießbach also fell victim to the Thirty Years' War from 1618 to 1648. In 1632 the Swedes razed the village and castle to the ground. During this time the plague raged in the area. When the heiress Maria Johanna von Gumppenberg married Johann Wilhelm von Lerchenfeld, the property came into the hands of Lerchenfeld in 1686 . More Hofmarkherren were the barons of Wade instep and the Barons of Hornstein until 1848. 1848 is dissolved Hofmark, the farms are owned by farmers.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Obermünchen and large parts of the dissolved municipality of Holzhausen were incorporated.

coat of arms

The coat of arms, which has been in use since 1982, is diagonally divided by silver and red and shows a red-armored black bear striding outwards at the top and a silver hop umbel with a leaf at the bottom.

The diagonal division with the striding black bear is reminiscent of the old Bavarian aristocratic family from Kärgl to Furth and Süssbach, who had demonstrably rights in Ober- and Niedersüßbach from 1327 and the rule of the Imperial Court until 1615. The colors silver and red are derived from the coat of arms of the Counts of Lerchenfeld, who were owners of the two court brands from 1678/80 to 1793. The hop umbel emphasizes the importance of hop growing in the municipality.
