Sergeant on duty
The NCO (UvD) is a service position and a special service of the Bundeswehr . In his function he is a superior with a special area of responsibility ( § 3 VorgV ). This is based on the central service regulation (ZDv) 10/5 (life in the military community). The UvD is responsible for monitoring the back office within its unit .
Designation and identification
This special service is generally performed by soldiers of the rank group of NCOs without portepee or by experienced crews . Especially in the context of the former conscription, a UvD service for team ranks was considered an award for particularly motivated and exemplary soldiers. Some private or corporal corporations were already used as UvD.
The UvD wears a white armband with the inscription UvD on his left upper arm while on duty . In the past, a blue shoulder cord was worn on the right shoulder instead of this armband.
Area of responsibility
The UvD is a special service for monitoring the office staff. Furthermore, the UvD is responsible for the cleanliness of the company and for observance of military order after the general working hours. Among other things, he is responsible for waking up, monitoring the cleaning of the accommodations and keeping the night's sleep. In general and in particular, he acts as directed by the company sergeant of his unit. The company sergeant usually also issues instructions for the UvD, in which z. B. rest periods, whereabouts, participation in day shift etc. is regulated.
The service as UvD usually lasts 24 hours (from the general start of work to the start of work on the next day). In addition to this task, he usually takes part in the day-to-day work of his unit. A special UvD room in the entrance area of the accommodation building is planned for him as a place of work. The UvD keeps a log of all events within its area of responsibility.
It is mostly used as one or two soldiers of the rank group of teams corporal on duty assigned (Legislative Decree), in the Navy sailor on duty called (MvD). At night, the UvD may alternate with the GvD. He has to regularly, also during the night, carry out inspection rounds (circular rounds) in the company area and often also in assigned areas of responsibility.
UvD in the medical service
In the first aid units, the UvD, which is always on site, provides first aid in emergencies outside of normal working hours until the doctor arrives on duty . He must also be able to assist with this right down to minor surgical interventions in the operating room - for example with sewing . He is authorized to give instructions to any other non-medical grade to carry out his duties. If an emergency ambulance is available to perform the task, the associated driver on duty is also under his control .
Subordinate and superior relationships
The non-commissioned officer on duty is subordinate to the company sergeant (KpFw) in the special area of responsibility and, outside of general duty, also to the sergeant from the weekly duty (FvW) and the officer from the guard duty (OvWa).
As a soldier who is assigned a special area of responsibility according to his position, the NCO has the authority to issue orders to other soldiers that are necessary for the performance of his duties. If this results from his area of responsibility, which is regularly the case with the UvD, he also has the authority to issue orders to soldiers who are not on duty.
In contrast to the UvD, the GvD is not a superior with a special area of responsibility. However, commands from the UvD can be transmitted through the GvD. The soldiers who are in charge of the UvD have to obey these.
