NCOs without portepee

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The non-commissioned officers without porterage form a rank group of the Bundeswehr .

The rank group includes the lower-ranking NCO ranks . All higher-ranking NCO ranks include the rank group of NCOs with portepee .

etymology

Etymologically , the service group designation goes back to the lower ranking position below the officers and to the French word portepee for a wrist strap . In earlier German armed forces, specially designed wrist straps were used to identify higher non-commissioned officers 'ranks, while lower non-commissioned officers' ranks received no (or at least no particularly elaborately designed) knuckle straps.

Ranks

The ranks of the Bundeswehr are determined by the Federal President with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers on the basis of the Soldiers Act . The rank group of NCOs without Portepee includes according to the central service provision (ZDv) A-1420/24 "ranks and rank groups" all NCO ranks to Stabsunteroffizier (for Heeres- and Air Force Uniform ) or Obermaat (for Marine Uniform ). The following tables summarize all the ranks that belong to the rank group of NCOs without portepee. The first table names the corresponding ranks for army and air force uniform wearers, the second table summarizes the rank group classification for naval uniform wearers. The tables also contain the corresponding NATO rank code , the  general abbreviations defined in accordance with ZDv 64/10 - Abbreviations in the Bundeswehr, as well as the abbreviations in lists and the salary group for professional and temporary soldiers according to the federal pay regulations .

Authority to command

Soldiers of the rank group NCOs without porterage can issue orders to soldiers of the rank group of men within the limits set there on the basis of § 4 ("Superiors relationship based on the rank") of the superiors ordinance.

As a rule, non-commissioned officers are deployed to positions such as group or squad leaders or as specialist staff in staffs and other posts that require a corresponding professional qualification. Because of these positions, the vast majority of non-commissioned officers can issue orders to all service or technical subordinate soldiers in the cases listed in the superiors ordinance.

Appointment and remuneration

Relevant legal basis for the appointment to one of the ranks of the rank group of NCOs without portepee is the Soldier Career Ordinance (SLV) and in addition the Central Service Regulations (ZDv) 20/7. Professional soldiers , temporary soldiers and reservists can be appointed to a corresponding rank . The prerequisite for being appointed to one of the ranks of the rank group of NCOs without porterage is membership of one of the careers of the career groups of officers or NCOs . A direct recruitment with a rank of the rank group of the NCOs without portepee is possible with appropriate suitability. The majority of non-commissioned officers, however, previously served in a rank of the men’s rank group as non-commissioned officers , sergeants or officer candidates . In these cases, the appointment as non-commissioned officer, mate, ensign or midshipman can take place after a period of service of twelve months at the earliest . Candidates for non-commissioned officers can be appointed non-commissioned officers no earlier than nine months after being appointed corporal . The ranks of the corporal , corporal and Oberstabsgefreiter do not have to be passed, so that the promotion to the rank group of NCOs without porter usually takes place from the rank of corporal . Candidates for non-commissioned officers have to pass a non-commissioned officer examination before being appointed non-commissioned officer , which consists of a general military and a military- technical part ( specialist non-commissioned officer examination ).

NCOs without Portepee be dependent on the rank and service position by the Federal pay regulation (BBesO) with A5 to A7 remunerated .

Rank badge

The rank badge of the NCOs without portepee shows an open or closed braid as a shoulder badge . The mate and the midshipman wear two angles facing the opening with the tips pointing up and down on both upper sleeves ; the chief mate's sleeve badges have two upper angles. Officer candidates of the rank group of NCOs without portepee also wear a silver-colored cord made of woven metal on all shoulder flaps and slip-on loops of the army and air force uniforms . Naval cadets of most careers can be recognized by the fact that they (usually instead of a usage badge) wear a five-pointed star as a career badge; Medical officer candidates in the rank of sea cadet instead use different forms of the Aesculapian staff (without anchor ) as career badges .

Equivalent rank groups

NCOs without portepee have the NATO rank code OR-5. There is no exact equivalent in other armed forces for the rank group of NCOs without porter . Based on the NATO rank code, however, the rank of sergeant from the group of non-commissioned officers of the US Army is comparable.

Unofficial names

In accordance with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers , the collective term "NCOs" summarizes all ranks of the two rank groups NCOs with and without porter. Alternatively, the term NCO ranks is used.

Unofficially, "NCOs" (or "NCOs") sometimes only means army and air force uniforms of the rank group NCOs without porter; Corresponding naval uniforms are unofficially referred to as mates . Sometimes the term NCO ranks implicitly includes all mates. Whether the term non-commissioned officers instead means several soldiers in the rank of non-commissioned officer , and accordingly the term maate not only means several soldiers in the rank of maat, is not always clear from the context. Due to the unofficial use of the designation, it is also unclear whether the ranks of the officer candidates from the rank group of non-commissioned officers without portepee ( flag junior and naval cadet ) following a different designation scheme are also included in the group of non-commissioned officers or mate or only the ranks of the rank group of non-commissioned officers without Portepee to which one can be appointed in one of the careers of the career group of NCOs.
