Rank and uniformed area

The sergeant-major is a soldier in the Bundeswehr who is a candidate for a rank of the rank group of NCOs with portepee .

definition

Sergeants in the Bundeswehr are soldiers on a temporary basis who have a rank of the teams or non-commissioned officers defined in the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers and, in accordance with the Soldier Career Ordinance in conjunction with the Central Service Regulation (ZDv) 20/7, one of the career paths belong to the sergeant . Corresponding naval uniform wearers are usually referred to as bosun candidates . Reservists in the appropriate ranks and careers in the reserve are referred to as reserve sergeant candidates; corresponding navy uniform wearers often as reserve boatswain candidates.

Depending on the context, the term Sergeant Candidate also includes corresponding naval uniforms and reservists; accordingly, the term bosun candidate often also includes the reserve bosun candidate.

It is a legal career classification of soldiers. With regard to salary , authority in the sense of the Superiors Ordinance , permissible and customary positions , etc., sergeants are equated with the corresponding team ranks and NCOs without porterage (the corresponding military service relationships).

Education and rank sequence

During their training, the sergeant candidates sequentially through the Team - and the non-commissioned officer ranks in the all teams and NCOs without Portepee usual time limits and regularly in the Soldatenlaufbahnverordnung provided rank order of lowest rank - corporal - Corporal - Sergeant or Maat - Staff Sergeant or Petty . The promotion to sergeant or boatswain then usually takes place after the sergeant examination and a service period of 36 months. A recruitment (or subsequent promotion) with a higher rank in the careers of sergeants is possible with evidence of relevant qualifications or after changing from the career of the teams or specialist NCOs; the period until the appointment as sergeant is reduced accordingly.

Sergeant candidates must pass a sergeant examination before being appointed to one of the ranks of NCOs with portepee , which consists of a general military and a military-technical part. The several months of military training must be carried out in the form of courses . The military-related part of the sergeant examination can be replaced by a usable professional qualification . A non-commissioned officer examination is not necessary before appointment to one of the ranks of the rank group of NCOs without porter .

Training in the army

The training of non-commissioned officers and sergeant candidates has been carried out in three sergeant / sergeant candidate battalions since January 2014 , following the example of the centralized training of officer candidates :

The focus is there to learn basic military skills and the troops genus independent training for supervisors , group leaders and trainers . In addition, in the future core unit of the sergeant candidate, sometimes also in further courses in training units or troop schools , the troop -specific specialist training takes place, as other teams receive in order to be able to fill a service post of the troop class (see positions for teams ). At the troop schools , candidate sergeants are given additional knowledge specific to the type of service. General military instruction for prospective sergeants takes place at the Army Sergeant's School . There the prospective sergeants complete the AMT sergeant's course (general military part) and the English language course in a total of 6 months. For the later sergeants of the infantry, the sergeant's course MFT (military subject part) A and B follows in the second inspection, lecture hall 7-11 at the Hammelburg Infantry School. Part A is called Sergeant Course, MFT Troop Service Infantry Part A. Part B is called Sergeant Course, MFT Troop Service Infantry Part B.

Rank designations and additions

Sergeant trainees wear the usual team and NCO ranks. In correspondence , add the suffixes "(Feldwebelanwärterin)", "(Feldwebelanwärter)" or "(FA)" or "(Reserve Sergeant-Candidate)", "(Reserve Sergeant-Candidate)" or "(RFA)" after your rank designation. ". Accordingly, the following additions are customary for navy uniform wearers: "(Boatswain candidate)", "(Boatswain attendant)" or "(BA)" or "(Reserve boatman candidate)", "(Reserve boatman candidate)" or "(RBA)" for short .

In contrast to the provisions of the Soldiers' Career Ordinance, brackets are often left out of the abbreviations in practice .

Rank badge

Sergeants wear basically the same rank badges as all other teams and NCOs without portepee. Sergeants in army and air force uniforms are identified by an old gold-colored cord made of woven metal in the form of a pull-over loop on all epaulettes . Two horizontal , parallel bars on all epaulettes , sliding loops and on all sleeve badges in the same color and design as the rank badges indicate the career affiliation of the corresponding naval uniform wearer. Soldiers in the lowest rank wear appropriate crossbeams and cords on otherwise empty epaulettes, sliding loops or sleeves.

The light old gold cord on the epaulets can be found in the service suit in the variant for army and air force uniform wearers as collar piping ; in the social suit of corresponding groups as epaulette piping . It is reminiscent of the portepee that gives the rank group its name .

history

The division of the career group of NCOs into the careers of specialist NCOs and the careers of sergeants, each with their own candidates, was created with the new version of the Soldiers' Career Ordinance in 2002. Before that there were only candidates for NCOs.

Remarks

  1. For reasons of space, shortened captions. This means army , navy and air force uniforms . The pictured next to the Aufschiebeschlaufe for Army Uniform hunter green braided tapes is in army uniform carriers the hallmark of belonging to the branch of service special forces , armored infantry troops or branch of service of the infantry . The career badge suggests belonging to the marine command service series (20s) . The different types of rank badges are presented in more detail in the article → "Rank badges of the Bundeswehr" .
  2. ZDv 20/7 on the basis of Section 44 of the Soldiers ' Career Paths Ordinance ( Ordinance on the Careers of Soldiers (Soldiers' Career Paths Ordinance - SLV) . March 19, 2002, Section 44 ( HTML [accessed on March 25, 2014] Neugefasst by Bek August 2011 I 1813. Last amended by Art. 2 Paragraph 5 G of April 8, 2013 I 730). )
  3. a b c The terms bosun candidate and reserve bosun candidate are not explicitly mentioned in the Soldiers' Career Ordinance (SLV), but have their basis in § 1 sentence 2 SLV, according to which for the Navy corresponding additions to the rank additions for army and Air force uniform wearers are included.
  4. According to the Soldier Career Ordinance , the ranks of Lance Corporal , NCO and Staff NCO (and corresponding ranks for naval uniforms) do not have to be passed. In practice, these ranks are usually also held by candidate sergeants. The ranks Hauptgefreiter , Stabsgefreiter and Oberstabsgefreiter can also be led by Sergeant Candidates. In practice, however, this tends to be the exception. Usually these are soldiers who only later switched from a career in the career group of the teams to one of the careers of sergeants.
  5. There are lower requirements for the period of service for reserve sergeants. However, they are on an equal footing with active soldiers insofar as promotions are only permitted after a period that is assumed as a minimum period of service in the employment relationship as a regular soldier .
