NCOs with portepee

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NCOs with Portepee form a rank group of the Bundeswehr , which includes all higher NCO ranks. All lower-ranking non-commissioned officers include the rank group of non-commissioned officers .

etymology

Etymologically , the rank group designation goes back to the lower rank below the officers and to the French word portepee for a fist strap ( French porte-épée , literally: sword holder). Specially designed wrist straps were used in earlier German armed forces to mark higher NCO ranks.

Ranks

The ranks of the Bundeswehr are determined by the Federal President with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers on the basis of the Soldiers Act . The rank group of the NCOs with Portepee includes according to the central service provision (ZDv) A-1420/24 "ranks and rank groups" all NCO Ranks from Sergeant and Ensign (for Heeres- and Air Force Uniform ) or Bootsmann and ensign (for Marine Uniform ).

The following tables summarize all ranks belonging to the rank group of NCOs with portepee. Authority to command

Soldiers of the rank group NCOs with portepee can issue orders to soldiers of the rank groups of teams and NCOs without portepee on the basis of § 4 ("Superiors relationship based on the rank") of the Superiors Ordinance within the limits set there .

As a rule, non-commissioned officers with portepee are assigned to positions such as company sergeants , platoon , company troop , group or troop leaders or as specialist staff in staff and other posts that require special professional qualifications. Due to these prominent positions, the vast majority of NCOs with portepee can issue orders to all officially or professionally subordinate soldiers in the cases listed in the Superiors Ordinance.

Appointment and remuneration

The relevant legal basis for the appointment to one of the ranks of the rank group of NCOs with portepee is the Soldier Career Ordinance (SLV) and in addition the Central Service Regulations (ZDv) 20/7. Professional soldiers , temporary soldiers and reservists can be appointed to a corresponding rank . The prerequisite for appointment to one of the ranks of the rank group of NCOs with portepee is membership of one of the career paths of sergeants or the career group of officers . A direct recruitment with a rank of the rank group of NCOs with portepee is possible with appropriate suitability. Most of the sergeants with portepee previously served in the rank of sergeant major. In this case, promotion can usually take place one year after being appointed staff sergeant. In this case, before being promoted to sergeant-major, a non-commissioned officer examination must be passed, which consists of a general military and a military-technical part ( sergeant examination ).

NCOs with Portepee be dependent on the rank and service position by the Federal pay regulation (BBesO) with A7 to A9 mA ( with duty allowance ) remunerated .

Rank badge

The rank badge of the NCOs with portepee shows one or more angles , partly in the form of head angles , with the point upwards and a closed braid as a shoulder badge or, in the case of naval uniform wearers, as a sleeve badge on the lower sleeve .

Officer candidates in the rank of ensign and senior midshipman also wear a silver-colored cord made of woven metal as a pull-over loop on almost all epaulettes and sliding loops to differentiate them ; a peculiarity are some rank insignia for top cadets who are already the dress uniform of the officers so that the closed braid and the silver cord eliminates wear while service dress as a pull tab.

Ensigns to the sea of most careers can be recognized by the fact that they (usually instead of a usage badge) wear a five-pointed star as a career badge; Medical officer candidates in the rank of ensign in the sea use different forms of the Aesculapian staff (without anchor ) as career badges . Like army and air force uniforms, senior ensigns at sea already wear the officers' uniforms , so instead of a head angle as with the chief boatman , all rank badges of the senior ensigns at sea show a narrow sleeve strip in the manner of the rank badges for naval officers , but with the career badges described for ensigns at sea .

Equivalent rank groups

NCOs with portepee include the NATO rank codes OR6 to OR9. There is no exact equivalent in other armed forces for the rank group of NCOs with portepee . Based on the NATO rank code, however, the group of senior non-commissioned officers (Sr. NCOs) of the US Army (ranks of sergeants from Sergeant First Class upwards) is comparable. The group of senior NCOs in the Swiss Army roughly corresponds to the German rank group.

Unofficial names

Army and air force uniforms of the rank group NCOs with portepee are unofficially referred to as sergeant ranks or sergeant for short ; Navy uniform wearers unofficially accordingly as boatmen , occasionally also as portepee sergeants (abbreviation: "PUOs") or boatmen . Sometimes the term sergeant ranks implicitly includes all boatmen. Whether the term sergeant instead of all sergeant ranks only means several soldiers in the rank of sergeant , is not always clear from the context . It is just as unclear at times whether the term boatswain does not only mean several soldiers in the rank of boatswain . Due to the unofficial nature of the designation, it is also unclear whether the ranks of the officer candidates from the rank group of NCOs with portepee ( ensign , Oberfähnrich or Fähnrich zur See and Oberfähnrich zur See ) also belong to the group of sergeants or boatmen are or only the ranks of the rank group NCOs with portepee, to which one can be appointed in one of the career paths of sergeants. These officer candidates are also sometimes grouped together as ensigns.
