location

Breitling vom Schnatermann with Rostock power station , overseas port and wind turbine

The north-south extension is about 1500 meters. The Breitling is only connected to the Baltic Sea by a narrow driveway in Warnemünde , the sea canal. These conditions make the Breitling an ideal natural harbor. The Breitling is delimited from the Baltic Sea by the Rostock district of Hohe Düne . The Rostock seaport is on the south bank and the port of the German Navy on the north bank . This is where the 1st Corvette Squadron and the 7th Schnellbootgeschwader are based. In front of Hohe Düne, only separated by the Pinnengraben , lies the uninhabited island of Pagenwerder , which has been artificially enlarged in part by being washed up . The island is a protected landscape area (bird breeding ground). On the eastern bank, on the edge of the Rostock Heath , is the historic Schnatermann excursion restaurant with a small sport boat harbor.

history

Wind turbine in the Breitling

In the 1950s / 60s, the Breitling was to be connected to the Szczecin Lagoon via the coastal canal . However, due to the high costs, this project was only implemented in parts.

In the first Breitling was founded in the fall of 2005 offshore - wind power plant in Germany. The wind turbine, which was built by the Rostock-based company Nordex and went into operation at the beginning of 2006, is 125 meters high including the rotor with a diameter of 90 meters and a nominal output of 2.5 megawatts.
