Weft
A tress (from French) is a strip of ribbon woven from gold and silver threads or also with silk , lahn and cantilla, or a border for trimming items of clothing, wallpaper fittings and the like. The warp is usually made of yellow or white silk, the weft of gold or silver spun.
The best wefts are on the right on both sides . According to the different patterns there are:
- Gauze, galon and coral work and solid or wire braids , all transparent and light, in the chain of silk and in the wrapping of thin gold or silver wire
- Ribbon tress ligatures , on the right of gold or silver, on the left entirely of silk
- Looped wefts in which, after two wefts of rich webbing, only one silk thread can be seen on the right side
Wefts are common in the uniforms of the navy , the air force and civil aviation and represent the rank .
