Roberto Hilbert January (* 16th October 1984 in Forchheim as Roberto January Geisler ) is a former German football player and current coach .
Life
Roberto Hilbert was born under the name Geisler - his father's family name. He grew up with his mother and the parents of his stepfather in Forchheim . Hilbert has two siblings and three half-sisters from his father's second marriage.
From 1991 to 2000 he attended the Adalbert Stifter elementary school in Forchheim and graduated from secondary school .
In 2005, Hilbert married his partner whom he had met during his training in Feucht . Together with the woman from Eritrea, he publicly campaigned against racism . The marriage resulted in three biological children and an adopted daughter. The marriage is now divorced.
Career as a player

In his youth, Hilbert played for SpVgg Jahn Forchheim , 1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Greuther Fürth . For the 2002/03 season he moved to the Bayern division 1. SC Feucht , where he developed into a high performer. After his first season with the club managed to advance to the rise in the Regionalliga South , in which he in the 2003/04 season, completed 26 games and scored ten goals.
Due to his achievements, the Fürth brought him back to their second division team for the 2004/05 season. Hilbert scored three goals in 34 games in the 2005/06 season and was then courted by several Bundesliga clubs.
For the 2006/07 season he finally moved to VfB Stuttgart , where he immediately fought for a regular place and was used in all league games. He scored his first Bundesliga goal for Stuttgart in the 3-2 away win against Werder Bremen on September 16, 2006, the 4th matchday of that season, after he had scored an own goal in the same goal. Hilbert mostly played in the right midfield, but also helped out on the right defensive position. He won the German championship in his first Bundesliga season with VfB , which was his first title win in his professional career. He was the only VfB player used in all games of the championship season and with seven goals in the league together with Thomas Hitzlsperger, behind strikers Mario Gómez and Cacau, took third place on the Stuttgart team's internal goalscorer list. In addition, he was with VfB in the final of the DFB Cup , which was lost 2: 3 nV against 1. FC Nürnberg .
Hilbert and VfB Stuttgart separated after the 2009/10 season after they had not been able to agree on a contract extension.
For the 2010/11 season Hilbert moved to Turkish Beşiktaş Istanbul on a free transfer . He signed for three years and wore the jersey with the number 9, later the 13th. He made his debut on matchday 2 on August 21, 2010 in the 2-0 defeat at home to Istanbul BB ; he scored his first goal on matchday 14 on November 14, 2010 in a 2-0 win in the away game against Gençlerbirliği Ankara with the goal of the final score in the 90th minute. On May 11, 2011 he won in Kayseri with the club 4: 3 i. E. against Istanbul BB the national club cup, where he could not convert his penalty . In three seasons he played 81 league games and scored five goals.
On July 12, 2013 Hilbert was signed for the 2013/14 season by Bayer 04 Leverkusen on a free transfer . He scored his first goal for Bayer Leverkusen on April 20, 2014 on matchday 31 in the away game against 1. FC Nürnberg . His contract ran until the end of June 2017 and was not extended beyond that.
At the beginning of October 2017, Hilbert joined the second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth . By the end of the 2017/18 season he had made 22 league appearances in which he scored one goal. After Hilbert made three appearances in the second division in the 2018/19 season , he ended his professional career in early January 2019. Hilbert began training as an athletic coach and was a member of the squad of the second team that played in the fourth-class Bavarian regional league . By the end of the season he came to two regional league appearances in which he scored a goal, and then ended his career.
National team
Hilbert played twelve games for the U-21 national team and scored three goals. On March 16, 2007 Hilbert was appointed to the senior national team for the first time , his first international match he played on March 28, 2007 in Duisburg in the 0-1 defeat against Denmark . His eighth and last international match was on February 6, 2008 in Vienna in a 3-0 win in the international test match against the Austrian team .
Career as a coach
For the 2019/20 season, Hilbert, who is studying to be a sports therapist and training as an athletic trainer, became Petr Ruman's co-trainer for the second team at SpVgg Greuther Fürth as well as athletic trainer for the B2 juniors (U16) and C1 juniors ( U15).
