SOR Libchavy spol. s ro is a Czech manufacturer of city buses and coaches . The company is increasingly producing vehicles with alternative drive technology .
history
Until 1990 there was a state-owned factory for the manufacture of tractors and other agricultural equipment in the Libchavy municipality in the Okres Ústí nad Orlicí district under the acronym SOR ( Sdružení opravárenství a rozvoje ; German: Association for Repair and Development ). As a result of the so-called Velvet Revolution , the economy of the Czech Republic was largely privatized . The tractor factory was also transferred to private ownership in 1991 and redesigned as a GmbH under the management of the former director of the Karosa bus works, Jaroslav Trnka . The name SOR was retained.
After the privatization, construction machinery was initially manufactured for export. With the proceeds , SOR gradually built a production line for buses, which has been continuously expanded since then. The first prototype of a bus was produced in 1993. The subsequent series delivery concentrated on city buses and coaches with conventional diesel drives , which were mainly sold in the countries of Eastern Europe. In 2007, the production of the first carried natural gas bus , a year later, the construction of low-entry - trolleybus . In 2009, the company recorded the in-house development of a hybrid bus . As a further in-house design, the first battery bus was presented in 2010 .
The company is a purely Czech company with no foreign capital and has been part of the Czech EP Holding since 2009 . Today SOR is the second largest bus manufacturer in the Czech Republic after Iveco Bus Czech Republic and has an annual turnover of over 2 billion crowns.
In 2019 bus production is expected to amount to 550 units. Of these, around 150 buses will be e-buses, trolley buses and vehicles powered by natural gas.

SOR offers coaches and city buses in lengths of 9 to 18 m in several equipment variants, both as a low-floor bus and as a low-entry bus . As an articulated bus , it has the highest possible passenger flow with five doors .
According to the manufacturer, the lightweight construction achieved primarily through the use of light metals and plastics enables an unusually low curb weight for buses . The engines available are FPT diesel engines ( Euro VI ) with 185, 194, 220 and 243 kW as well as a 120 kW electric motor and a 209 kW natural gas engine. For the transmissions and retarders , SOR relies on products from the German manufacturers ZF and Voith . Most of the braking systems come from Knorr-Bremse ; the EBS and the ECS from the supplier company WABCO . The batteries for the SOR EBN 11 battery bus are supplied by the Chinese manufacturer Winston Battery .
