SOR NB 18 is a low-floor articulated bus from the East Bohemian company SOR Libchavy .

vehicle description

The NB 18 is the first articulated model from the SOR brand. It is derived from a fully low - floor, two-axle NB 12 bus . The bus has space for 150 passengers with 44 seats. The skeleton of the two-part, three-axle bus was welded from steel profiles and coated with composite and plastic materials. The two articles are connected with a hinge and covered with bellows . To increase the corrosion resistance, rustproof materials are used on the underside of the vehicle .

The FPT Industrial Cursor diesel engine drives the rear axle via the ZF Ecomat automatic transmission . The engine is traditionally placed upright in the engine tower, which is placed in the rear left corner of the bus. The rear and middle axles are manufactured by ZF. The front axle with independent suspension is manufactured independently. The floor of the bus is 340 mm above the road. The bus is accessed via double-leaf doors (three in the front area, two in the rear area). The doors open inwards, opening of demand was first made by the company Pars komponenty and then the company Norgren since 2014. The bus was glazed using adhesive technology.

The SOR NBH 18 bus with hybrid drive (a parallel hybrid drive unit from Allison enables the accumulation of braking energy, which is then used for starting via two electric motors built into the automatic transmission) and the trolleybuses SOR TNB 18 and Škoda 31Tr SOR are derived from the NB 18.

Accessibility has been improved by the ECAS system and the platform for wheelchairs on the third door. Space is reserved for wheelchairs and strollers near the second and third doors. The camera on the back of the bus provides a better view when reversing, while the interior cameras provide an overview of the situation in the passenger compartment. The bus is equipped with STER 6MS plastic seats, most of the seats are raised, some are at floor level and some are foldable.

Production and operation

In 2006, SOR presented a completely new series of low-floor buses at the Autotec in Brno. The NB 12 two-axle solo bus and the NB 18 articulated bus were presented here with their prototypes, and at the end of the fair both vehicles carried out test and demonstration trips through the cities of the Czech Republic and Slovakia . The second NB 18 bus was presented at the Autotec 2008 and differs from the first prototype by a modified design. Series production began in autumn 2008 and the first nine NB 18 series buses were delivered to Nitra in January 2009. A version with a SOR NBH 18 hybrid drive has also been available since 2009.

The prototype of the NB 18, which was not intended for passenger transport, was bought by Veolia Transport Prague and then donated to the Czech Broadcasting Fund. It has been converted into a mobile café called “Potmě”, which he has been running since 2012 as part of the “Světluška” project, where blind waiters serve customers in complete darkness.

A prototype version with an engine that complies with the Euro 6 emissions standard was produced in 2013. It was later put into operation in Prague and was given registration number 6997 there. Since 2015, these buses have been manufactured with an Iveco engine that meets the Euro 6 emissions standard. These versions are a new type of gearbox Ecolife 6AP 1402B from ZF, which shifts at lower speeds.

183 SOR NB 18 buses were also delivered to Bratislava in 2010–2017 .

Since the end of 2017 the second generation SOR NB 18 was delivered to Prague with a different interior and air conditioning . A contract was signed for a total of 150 of these vehicles.
