geography

location

The community is located on the Great Vils in the eastern district of Landshut.

Community structure

Schalkham has 40 districts in two districts :

Johannesbrunn and Geigermann belong to the Johannesbrunn district ; the remaining 38 parts of the municipality belong to the district of Schalkham. The Pelzgarten residential and commercial area to the south, which does not form a separate part of the municipality, also belongs to Johannesbrunn. Johannesbrunn was assigned to the Schalkham community in 1850 and was previously a so-called patrimonial community . Hochreit and Vorrach were incorporated into the dissolved community of Hölsbrunn ( Gangkofen ) in 1972 and also added to the district of Schalkham.

history

Until the church is planted

Schalkham was originally a royal estate of the Carolingians . Although the surrounding towns such as Leberskirchen, Johannesbrunn and Untertinsbach rose to become mansions over the centuries and Schalkham soon surpassed Schalkham in number of inhabitants, the name, steeped in history, was still decisive: in the Middle Ages as a chairman, then as a tax district and, with the municipal edict of 1818, as parish lady.

20th and 21st centuries

During the regional reform in 1972, Schalkham formed an administrative community and a school association with the neighboring municipality of Gerzen.

The Order of the Brothers of Mercy was active in the Johannesbrunn part of the municipality for over 100 years, in 1970 the Free State of Bavaria acquired the monastery complex and used it as a home for asylum seekers until 1996. The former monastery complex has been owned by the Schalkham community since 2000.

Remarks:
b impartial group of voters

Eight months after the end of the war, the first municipal elections (municipal council elections) took place in the municipalities of Bavaria on January 27, 1946. In April and May 1946 the first elections for mayors, district administrators and district assemblies followed. In 2006 the 60th anniversary was celebrated.

The community of Schalkham is a member of the following special-purpose associations:

  • Water maintenance association Landshut-Kelheim-Dingolfing-Landau
  • Regional planning association Landshut
  • School Association Gerzen
  • Aham-Gerzen-Schalkham association for child education and care

  • Free voters 3 (3) seats,
  • Impartial group of voters 3 (3) seats and

In the municipal council election, 674 (660) citizens were entitled to vote. 490 (506) of them took part as voters, which corresponds to a turnout of 72.7 (76.7) percent. 485 (498) valid and 5 (8) invalid votes were cast.

mayor

Lorenz Fuchs ( Free Voters ) has been mayor since 2002 . He was confirmed in office in the 2008 and 2014 local elections .

coat of arms

The description of the coat of arms reads: Under a silver wave shield head, inside three vertical red diamonds, in blue a silver Romanesque font.

The official justification for the coat of arms, which has been in use since 1983, is: “The silver wave shield head symbolizes the location of the community on the Vils and the landscape shaped by the Vils. The three red diamonds are taken from the coat of arms of the local noble family of Leberskirchen, who were richly wealthy in the area on the Vils since the High Middle Ages and who died out in 1521, who named themselves Leberskirchen after their ancestral seat and were of great historical importance for the municipality of Schalkham. The Romanesque baptismal font refers to the Johannesbrunn part of the community and to the Johannes patronage of the baptistery, which was attested in the High Middle Ages. The field marking in silver and blue reminds of the historical affiliation to the Bavarian district court Vilsbiburg. "
