Leberskirchen is a parish village and part of the community Schalkham in the Lower Bavarian district of Rottal-Inn .

geography

The parish village is located 2 kilometers west of the core town of Schalkham on the Great Vils .

history

A Eckart von Leubrantschirchen (Leberskirchen) is mentioned in a document in 1295 as an important follower of Bishop Heinrich von Regensburg . The local noble family of Leberskirch, which died out in 1521 and named after their ancestral seat Leberskirchen, was historically of great importance for the entire municipality of Schalkham. They had been wealthy in the area on the Vils since the High Middle Ages.

The Catholic Church of St. Rupert with a wall is a late Gothic hall church from the second half of the 15th century, which was built on top of Romanesque predecessor buildings. Leberskirchen came to the community of Schalkham when the community was being formed in Bavaria in 1818.
