The Große Vils is the right source river of the Vils in Bavaria . Their sources are located in a forest south of Seeon (municipality of Lengdorf in the district of Erding ) at an altitude of 502 m above sea level. NN.

The Große Vils meanders in a northerly and easterly direction through the towns of Taufkirchen (Vils) , Velden and Vilsbiburg up to 700 meters south of Gerzen , where it joins the Kleine Vils to form the Vils .

In the vicinity of the Große Vils, the Counts of Neuburg-Falkenstein , a powerful noble family of the High Middle Ages , had their oldest possessions in addition to the Inn and Mangfall valleys.
