history

The place and the Johanneskirche in Johannesbrunn are mentioned in 1350 in a deed of donation from Johannes von Prunn. The local Hofmark owned by the Seiboldsdorfer was united with the Hofmark Gerzen and Mangern in the 16th century. In 1808 Johannesbrunn belonged to the tax district of Hölsbrunn. The community of Hölsbrunn was founded in 1818 on the basis of this tax district by the Bavarian community edict. This included all places in the tax district except Johannesbrunn, which formed an indirect patrimonial community . The second class patrimonial court applied for was finally confirmed for the rule of Gerzen on January 11, 1820, first under court lord Joseph Ritter von Mayer, and from 1833 by Maximilian Graf von Montgelas with court keeper Franz Pfaffenzeller. From 1848 the last privileges of the aristocracy were abolished. On July 7, 1850, the independent rural and tax community Johannesbrunn was incorporated into the larger community of Schalkham. The Johannesbrunn Monastery , built in 1860/61 together with the new Johanneskirche, is a former monastery of the Servitinnen , later of the Brothers of Mercy . It served as a nursing home and dormitory and has been the community and cultural center of the Schalkham community since 2001.
