We Are One: A Global Film Festival
We Are One: A Global Film Festival is a virtual film festival launched by Tribeca Enterprises and YouTube in April 2020 . The first edition took place from May 29th to June 7th, 2020.
history
After the Tribeca Film Festival canceled its 19th edition planned for April 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and also most of the film festivals planned for spring and summer 2020 worldwide were canceled, postponed or also only carried out virtually or had no idea how to do them In April 2020 , Tribeca Enterprises and YouTube announced that they would launch the first edition of “We Are One: A Global Film Festival” the following month. Various films are to be made available for free on YouTube. In addition to the Tribeca Film Festival, partners include the Cannes , Venice , Berlin and Karlovy Vary ( Karlsbad ) film festivals , as well as the New York Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival , the Toronto International Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Sydney Film Festival . In addition to the feature films, documentaries and short films presented by the participating film festivals, “Round Tables” will also be streamed.
The Tribeca Film Festival was able to gain experience with a virtual film festival itself. During the festival's original time window, a selection of films was made available online and film awards were presented at the end.
The festival aims to support the World Health Organization (WHO) and benefit the established COVID-19 Relief Fund. The income from advertising and donations will also go to other organizations fighting the coronavirus pandemic, such as UNICEF , UNHCR , Save the Children and Doctors Without Borders , as well as various local aid organizations. The audience will be asked to donate during the festival.
procedure
The full program was presented a few days before the start. In total, the We Are One: A Global Film Festival program includes 100 films from 35 countries, 34 feature films and 71 short films, as well as four television and three web formats, 15 virtual reality programs and 16 discussions with well-known filmmakers. The latter includes roundtables with stars such as the actor Jackie Chan , with Alain Delon and Zhang Ziyi, and a masterclass with Nadav Lapid . Then there are the pairings Ang Lee and Hirokazu Koreeda , Claire Denis and Olivier Assayas , Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Soderbergh as well as Alejandro González Iñárritu and Marina Abramović .
The films presented include 13 world premieres, 31 online premieres and five international online premieres. The world premieres include the documentary Iron Hammer by actress and director Joan Chen about the Chinese volleyball star Jenny Lang Ping , the Israeli neo-noir thriller Losing Alice (also Leabed et Alice ), a series pilot film by Sigal Avin and the short film The Yalta Conference Online , which the Japanese director Koji Fukada shot exclusively for the festival.
The first edition of the We Are One: A Global Film Festival took place from May 29th to June 7th, 2020. With every film having a fixed program slot, the organizers try to create a little festival flair and also counteract consumer behavior on the major streaming portals. The films had fixed starting times that could be noted with the YouTube premiere function, but remained available on YouTube until the end of the festival and a few days after that.
