Eliza Hittman (* 1979 in New York City ) is an American film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

In New York -born Eliza Hittman studied film directing at the California Institute of the Arts . She made her feature film debut as a producer and director in 2013 with the drama It Felt Like Love, for which she also wrote the screenplay. In January 2017, Hittman presented her film Beach Rats at the Sundance Film Festival . The jury's reasoning for the award of the NDR Young Talent Award, which the film received at the Hamburg Film Festival , states: “With impressive aplomb, the director and her main character allow us to drift down an abyss through the summer in Brooklyn. The story captivates from the first second. Beach Rats does not hide behind aesthetic gimmicks or narrative bizarre features, but rather takes an emotional stance and is so tender, sensual, direct, pulsating and vulnerable that we leave the cinema with emotion and are aware of what filmmaking means: love for the audience. "

In 2020, Hittman received invitations to the competitions of the 70th Berlin International Film Festival and the 36th Sundance Film Festival for the feature film Never Rarely Sometimes Always (original title: " Never Rarely Sometimes Always ") . Her film was awarded the Grand Jury Prize in Berlin and the US Dramatic Special Jury Award at Sundance.
