Chloë Stevens Sevigny (born November 18, 1974 in Darien , Connecticut ) is an American actress and former model .

life and career

Sevigny grew up in the small town of Darien in the US state of Connecticut . Her mother Janine (nee Malinowski) is a primary school teacher, her father H. David Sevigny († 1996) worked in an insurance company and later as an interior painter. She has an older brother named Paul who works as a DJ in New York City . Sevigny's ancestors on her mother's side come from Poland , on her father's side she is of French-Canadian descent.

She attended Darien High School and was a rather rebellious teenager. She smoked, shaved her head, experimented with drugs and skipped school. Sevigny later explained that she was a depressed teenager and was bored in the stuffy town of Darien. She was increasingly drawn to New York City, where she hung out with the skaters in Washington Square Park . At the age of 18, Sevigny finally left her parents' home and rented an apartment in Brooklyn .

Sevigny began her career as a model. In 1993 she was approached at a newspaper stand in the East Village by a fashion editor for Sassy magazine, USA, who was so enthusiastic about Sevigny's unusual clothing style that she brought her to the camera as a model for the magazine. Sevigny later also worked as an intern in the fashion department of the magazine.

A few months later, Sevigny was approached again about her “look” on the street, this time by a photographer who shot her for the British fashion and music magazine iD . In 1994 she was booked for the X-Girl label of Sonic Youth front woman Kim Gordon and posed in a fashion spread for Paper magazine. Various other model orders followed. a. for H&M and the 1996 spring and summer collection by Miu Miu .

Sevigny played first roles in music videos for the bands Sonic Youth and Lemonheads . She made her film debut in 1995 in the independent drama Kids by Larry Clark . Her former partner Harmony Korine wrote the screenplay for the film and recommended it to the director. She also worked with Korine on Gummo in 1997 .

Sevigny celebrated her greatest acting success to date with Hilary Swank in Boys Don't Cry from 1999. For her role as Lana Tisdel, she was nominated for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe .

The 2003 film The Brown Bunny , in which Sevigny performed oral sex on Vincent Gallo , caused a stir in the United States. In 2010 she received the Golden Globe Award for her supporting role as a fundamentalist Mormon and wife of a polygamist in the television series Big Love .

In May 2012 Sevigny got the role of Abigail Williams in David Esbjornson's play Abigail / 1702 , which was performed from June 27 to July 8, 2012 in New York. In the same year she also played a trans-female hitman in the British television series Hit & Miss and has been a member of the horror series American Horror Story since 2012 . In 2014 Sevigny announced that she would star in the fantasy thriller film Antibirth by the Puerto Rican Danny Perez , starring alongside Natasha Lyonne , and starring in the horror comedy The Master Cleanse , alongside Johnny Galecki and Anjelica Huston .
