Mrs Harris - murder in the best circles is an American television - drama from the year 2005 . The film adaptation is based, among other things, on the book Very Much a Lady by Shana Alexander .

action

Jean Harris is driving a five-hour drive from Virginia to New York in the middle of a storm in a fit of jealousy . Her goal is to meet her lover, Dr. Herman Tarnower , cardiologist and inventor of the Scarsdale diet , to confront his infidelity to her and then to commit suicide. Harris has had a relationship with him for 15 years and has found that he is also having an affair with his secretary Lynne Tryforos. Arriving at Tranower, she pulls a gun from her purse. Tarnower tries to take the gun from her and in the scuffle a shot goes off that seriously injures him. She drives away to get help and when she returns the police are already in the door. The film then shows in flashbacks how Tranower had manipulated Harris and repeatedly postponed the promised wedding, only to tell her later that he wanted to marry another woman. During the trial, however, the prosecutor paints the picture of a cold and inconsiderate woman. Harris is eventually given a 15-year life sentence and serves her sentence at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Westchester County.

  1. Phyllis Nagy: MRS HARRIS wasn't an adaptation of the Alexander book - it was one of the sources I used, along with 10,000 pages of trial transcript, public commentary by Jean Harris herself and reportage from the time of Herman Tarnower's death.
