iD is an influential British fashion magazine that is not only about clothing, but also extensively on art, music and youth culture.

The magazine is known for innovative photography and typography . Numerous famous photographers such as Nick Knight , Wolfgang Tillmans , Juergen Teller or Ellen von Unwerth worked for iD or only became known through the magazine.

A kind of trademark of iD is that on the cover of every issue the right eye of the model or star depicted on it is closed or covered in some way. Each issue has a one-word motto ( e.g. the art issue , the earth issue , the forward issue , the declaration issue ).

iD was founded in 1980 by Terry Jones, who left his post as Art Director of British Vogue in 1977 because he wanted to do more with music and street culture . Jones also serves as the editor of iD to this day. The magazine was published eleven times a year and is now six times a year by the London publisher Levelprint Ltd , which was taken over by Vice UK in December 2012 .

iD is often iD or ID magazine written, but can not with New York design magazine ID to be confused that the US publisher F + W Publications Inc. publishes.
