action

The focus of the series is gynecologist and obstetrician Mindy Lahiri. She tries to combine everyday professional life and her private life and to find the right man. She shares her practice with the three doctors Danny Castellano, Jeremy Reed and Peter Prentice.

production

The series was originally commissioned for NBC . The working title should be "It's Messy". Universal Television later sent the pilot's script to Fox , which commissioned it on May 7, 2012. Back in October 2012, Fox announced the so-called back nine order , which expanded the first season from 13 to 22 episodes. About two weeks later, the series was supplemented by two more scripts. As a result, the first season has 24 episodes. At the request of the producers and some actors, cast changes were made in November 2012. The role of Gwen Grandy (played by Anna Camp ) went from a leading role to a recurring guest role. Amanda Setton , who played Shauna Dicanio , left the series, however. Even Stephen Tobolowsky was eliminated from the series, while Mary Grill was promoted to supporting actress and Beth Grant was given a lead role.

A second season of the series was ordered in March 2013. This season, Xosha Roquemore's role, which appeared in the last three episodes, is being transformed from supporting actress to leading actress. Shortly after the start of the second season, Adam Pally , who was seen in a guest role, was also promoted to lead actor. In March 2014, the series received an early extension of a third season, which should initially only consist of 15 episodes. In November 2014, however, Fox ordered six more episodes, making the third season a total of 21 episodes. In the same month Adam Pally's exit from the series after the 13th episode became known.

In May 2015, Fox announced the discontinuation of the series, whereupon the production studio began to negotiate with the video-on-demand provider Hulu about a sequel. An agreement was reached and a 26-part fourth season was ordered. In May 2016, Hulu extended the series for a fifth season.

On March 29, 2017, Hulu announced the production of a sixth season. With this season the series ends.
