Ronit Elkabetz ( Hebrew רונית אלקבץ; * November 27, 1964 in Be'er Scheva , Israel ; † April 19, 2016 in Tel Aviv , Israel) was an Israeli actress , film director and screenwriter .

Life and accomplishments

Ronit Elkabetz was born in Be'er Scheva in 1964 as the oldest of four children of Moroccan Jews. She spent her childhood in Kirjat Yam . She never studied acting, but started her career as a model. Nevertheless, she made her debut in the 1990 published and Daniel Wachsmann staged Drama Hameyu'ad alongside Tzvi Shissel and Yitzhak Ne'eman . She then starred in other films, including the drama Tzaleket , directed by Haim Bouzaglo , with which she made her screenplay debut. For her roles in Sh'Chur , Marriage Against Will and The Band Next Door , she was each awarded the Israeli Ophir Award for Best Actress . After she made her debut as a director with the drama Separate Paths in 2004, she also received an Ophir Award nomination for Best Director for her second directorial work Shiva . She found particular fame and recognition with the film Get - The Trial of Viviane Amsalem (Gett: Le procès de Viviane Amsalem) 2014. She shared the direction of these three films with her brother Shlomi Elkabetz . The film was shown for the first time at the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival in the side series Quinzaine des Réalisateurs . In July 2014, he received three awards, including the Haggiag Award for best Israeli film. The film was nominated for the 2015 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Another brother is the actor Yechiel Elkabetz .

Elkabetz died in April 2016 at the age of 51 from complications from cancer. She leaves behind her husband and two children.
