Ophir Award
The Ophir Award (פרס אופיר) is an Israeli film prize that has been awarded for the first time in 1982 and annually since 1990 by the Israeli Academy for Film and Television (האקדמיה הישראלית לקולנוע וטלוויזיה) for the outstanding work of the Israeli film industry. The award is named after the Israeli actor Shaike Ophir .
The award ceremony will take place in Tel Aviv-Jaffa about four months before the Oscar nominations are announced . The film awarded for the best film is automatically submitted as a contribution to the nomination for the best foreign language film .
The drama Ha-Asonot Shel Nina , which won 11 out of 13 possible Ophirs , has received the most awards so far . Assi Dayan won the award eight times and has been recognized as a director, screenwriter and actor. The prize is currently awarded in 17 categories.
