Colac is a city in the south of the Australian state of Victoria . Colac is about 150 kilometers west of Melbourne . Nearby is Lake Colac .

history

The first European settlement in the area was established by Hugh Murray in 1837 . In 1848 the city was founded under the name Lake Colac . In the same year a post office was opened. In 1854 the name of the city was shortened to Colac.

Economy & Transport

Colac today has about 12,000 inhabitants. In addition to agriculture, tourism is also economically important due to its proximity to the Great Otway National Park and its location on the Princes Highway .

The place has a train station with connections to Warrnambool and Melbourne ( Melbourne Southern Cross Station ).
