The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF, Japanese 東京 国際 映 画 祭 , Tōkyō Kokusai Eigasai) is one of the largest international film festivals in Asia .
The first festival took place in Tokyo in 1985 . The jury president at the time was British film producer David Puttnam . Today the more than 300 films that take part each year are shown in international competition, in special programs for popular entertainment films not yet shown in Japan , and in the film series Winds of Asia (for Asian films) and Japanese Eyes (for new Japanese films).
The Tokyo International Film Festival is organized by the Japan Association for the International Promotion of Moving Images (UniJapan) . The current chairman of the festival is Tsuguhiko Kadokawa .
The Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix is the main prize of the international competition.
