The International Film Festival of India ( IFFI ) is an international film festival with specialized competition. It is the oldest film festival in India.

The first festival took place in 1952 and has been held annually since 1975. The main organizers are the Indian Directorate of Film Festivals and the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting . The venue changed annually (mostly New Delhi ); but since 2004 it has been permanently stationed in the Indian state of Goa . The International Film Festival of India is accredited by the international film producers association FIAPF . Since 2008 the festival has been organized under the leadership of Manoj Srivastava , Executive Director of the Entertainment Society Of Goa. The 46th International Film Festival of India took place from November 20th to November 30th, 2015.

Films produced in Asia by directors of Asian origin are running in the competition . The two main prizes are:

  • the Golden Peacock for the best film by an Asian director
  • the Silver Peacock for the most promising Asian director

In addition to other sections such as tributes, homages and Indian mainstream cinema ( Bollywood ), there is also an international panorama section (“Cinema of the World”) with films that have not been shown in India before. A total of around 200 films are presented each time.
