history

Until the church is planted

The Fraunhofen family, a ministerial family that was first verifiable at the beginning of the 11th century, named itself after the town of Altfraunhofen. In 1077 an imperial charter confirmed Heinrich IV. Frawnhofen as part of the basic equipment of the Frauenchiemsee monastery since its foundation in the 8th century.

In the 13th century, the Lords of Fraunhofen succeeded in securing the special position of a rule independent of the Bavarian duke. The Wittelsbachers , however, did not recognize the imperial immediacy of those of Fraunhofen, and until the mediatization at the beginning of the 19th century it remained an undecided issue of whether the von Fraunhofen were subordinate to the sovereign or as an imperial estate directly to the emperor. In 1409 the imperial rule was divided into Alt- and Neufraunhofen. The rulership of Fraunhofen was divided into the chairmanships Altfraunhofen (also Hofmark ), Oberheldenberg, Holzhausen, Neufraunhofen (also Hofmark) and Baierbach .

With the Rheinbund act 1806 the place came to Bavaria . The imperial rule was converted into the royal Bavarian lordship of Alt- and Neufraunhofen. A commissioner appointed from Munich took over the clerk's office in today's curate building in Neufraunhofen. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

20th and 21st centuries

Since May 1, 1978 the municipality of Altfraunhofen has belonged to the administrative community of the same name, whose headquarters are in Altfraunhofen. The municipality, which used to be predominantly agricultural, experienced a structural change through the settlement of commercial and craft businesses.

The new building of a senior citizens' residence on Schlossinselstrasse has created 11 supervised apartments and 40 care places. The building was inaugurated in autumn 2010.
