Domination (territory)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From the Middle Ages to modern times, a territory was referred to as rule (French: seigneurie ) , the owner of which exercised full feudal rights , jurisdiction and other sovereign rights in his area, but did not have a princely title (count, duke, etc.). Rulers were mostly part of a state territory and were represented in its estates or state parliament in the gentlemen's curia or the princely chamber, but otherwise acted largely autonomously.

Territories with fewer rights of their own were referred to as subordinate rule , minority rule or otherwise. In the Netherlands a comparable legal form was called High Glory .

history

In documents and narrative texts of the Middle Ages, the term Herr (Latin dominus ) appeared for some people . These had rulership rights in a small territory, but evidently did not emerge from the early medieval fief pyramid and did not have a princely title. Lords were always distinguished from knights or men who, as vassals, were dependent on the respective sovereign.

Since 18./19. In the 19th century, the name changed in many areas to class rule with the same meaning, in contrast to other forms of manorial rule.
