Polheim (noble family)

Pollheim (also Pohlheim, Polheim, Polheimb , Polhaimb or Pollheimer etc.) is the name of one of the oldest Upper Austrian noble families . The Polheim family was wealthy, became a baron and count and was related to the most important families of the Habsburg Monarchy and beyond, including those of Starhemberg , Salm , Puchheim , Abensberg and Traun , Liechtenstein , Schaunberg , Stubenberg , Walsee , Öttingen , Borsselen and from Bourbon-Montpensier .

history

According to documents, the origin of the sex can be traced back to the beginning of the 10th century. The uninterrupted line of trunks begins with Weichard von Polheim , who appears in a document in 1143. It branched into several lines. In the 16th century the lines of Parz (Grieskirchen), Wartenburg and Leibnitz flourished .

The noble family owned numerous estates in Upper, Lower Austria and Styria . Your parent house burned down to the remains of the foundation in the Middle Ages. It was located in Pollham near Grieskirchen in the "Herrenholz" in the village of Aigen. After the fire, the new parent company was built in Parz , 4 km to the south . Parz Castle has the largest Renaissance frescoes north of the Alps with unique depictions of the Reformation. The associated goods Dopplergut and Schwarzlehnergut from the old headquarters in Herrenholz still exist in almost their original condition. After a miraculous cure from a deadly disease, Count Rüdiger von Pollheim donated the Dopplergut to Wilhering Abbey near Linz , which can be read on a stone tablet in the cloister. But before that they had the castle and the rule Wartenburg not far from Vöcklabruck as their seat of power and therefore also called themselves "von Pollheim and Wartenburg". In 1712 the brothers Franz Ludwig and Ehrenreich Andreas von Polhaimb and Warttenburg were raised from Freiherrenstan to the rank of imperial and hereditary-Austrian counts.

The donation-happy church patron Therese Wilhelmine von Pollheim-Winkelhausen († 1757), widow of Count Andreas Ehrenreich von Polheim († 1735), resident in the Electoral Palatinate , left his coat of arms in several churches. The alliance coat of arms of those von Polheim and von Winkelhausen adorns a side altar of the Catholic. Church of St. Pankratius in Schwetzingen , the pulpit of the Mannheim parish church of St. Sebastian and the choir arch of the collegiate church of Our Lady in Lindau . The Polheimer family withdrew to Lower Austria and died out in the male line in 1909 .
