Winkelhausen (also: Winckelhausen ) is the name of an ancient Bergisch noble family who named themselves after their headquarters in Groß-Winkelhausen in Düsseldorf-Angermund .

history

In 1271 a Johann de Zeppenheim gt. Winkelhusen is mentioned as a witness in an episcopal document from Cologne. Its seal shows a tar torch iron. Little by little the family then took the place name, which refers to an angle, i.e. H. a curvature of the Angerbach decreases. In 1288 and 1290 Ludolf de Winkelhausen appeared as the owner of the knight's seat. Knight Adolf von Winckelhusen, together with the brothers Johann and Ludekin von Winckelhusen, is documented in a document from the St. Geoerg Abbey in Cologne for the year 1300 .

From these beginnings to their extinction in the male line in the 18th century, the family can be consistently proven genealogically (see corresponding line of strains below). Many of the family members held important administrative and church positions, e.g. B .:

The family owned at least 5 knight seats over the centuries. In addition to the family headquarters, Groß-Winkelhausen , these were:

There were also a large number of farms and other possessions, e. B .:

After the male line of von Winkelhausen died out in 1739, Philipp Christof Freiherr von Loe zu Wissen , husband of Anna Maria Theresia von Winkelhausen, inherited the name and coat of arms of the Winkelhausen family. He then wrote to Loe Graf zu Winkelhausen according to family contracts . The goods Kalkum, Winkelhausen and Morp, however, went to Edmund Graf von Hatzfeld zu Weisweiler, husband of Isabella Johanna Maria von Winkelhausen, a niece of the above.
